Many people that start their fitness programs after a few months get a bit frustrated that they are not seeing the dramatic changes that they expected. While there are several factors that will contribute to results or lack there of. The biggest factor and those that have read my articles in the newspaper know this is nutrition. If you do not change how you are eating your results will not be what you hoped.

Another key factor is genetics. Each of us have different body types, metabolism rates as well as other key factors that will dictate our results. Quite a few these can be over come through the right supplements such as multi-vitamins, whey protein, L-Glutamine, L-Arganine, Branch Chain Amino Acids and other over the counter supplements. To achieve the look your capable of it is important that you learn what your body responds positively too and follow that.

The way that you learn this is by keeping a journal of your workouts, the supplements you take and when, weekly body fat and lean muscle mass and for the first 90 days how your eating and what your eating. By following this you will learn the positive and negative things that your body responds too. All of this may seem like a lot of work and for the average person just looking to drop a few pounds and put on a pair of pants or outfit that has not been worn in a awhile is not necessary but if your looking to really change your body then this is a must do.

Both my wife and I keep a journal of our workouts and supplements and when preparing for a contest we will track our meals. I made a decision yesterday to stay focused on the gym and growing our members and will not be competing this year. Nicole on the other hand will be and I will be supporting here and letting her add some thoughts here on my blog. I will post some photos of her and how she is progressing. The class she will compete in is called figure and can open many doors for sponsorship with the supplement companies.

If we can help you with your fitness goals please come by and see us at Fitness Connection located at 101 South Locust Street in Dexter. Call us at 624-3118.

Do you have any advice for moms trying to lose the baby bulge?? I have been very small my entire life, now after two kids in 3 years I am having trouble losing this belly fat! HELP!!

-- Posted by military wife on Mon, Mar 24, 2008, at 3:50 PM

Did you have a c section or go natural. C section causes scarring where natural will not. Cardio (treadmills, bicycle) and ab exercises will assist you in your quest to get your pre-baby body back. How are your eating habits? As always if you want to stop by and see us at Fitness Connection come on by or give us a call 624-3118.

Do you have an area for the kids to play while momma exercises?

-- Posted by lilmamma on Tue, Mar 25, 2008, at 3:06 PM

both of my deliveries were natural. My youngest was born 9 months ago. I believe I have fairly decent eating habits, I eat a lot of chicken, fish, salads, vegies & only whole wheat pasta. I have pretty well cut out soda, but can't give up my sweet tea!! I work out on my elliptical and do a little with some 5lb weights. I have also been walking while pushing the two kids in the stroller! I seem to be losing everywhere except the belly! Why is this the hardest area to lose? I know that it is not only unattractive, but belly fat is also the most dangerous for your health so I'm really upset with the results I'm getting(or should I say not getting)

Yes we have a play area for the lil ones and have it staffed from 4 to 7 Monday through Friday. Bellyfat is the hardest to lose because it is what is called gray fat and the last source the body will use for energy. I have found a fat burner that is highly effective at burning this area combined with diet and exercise. We have several members using the pill right now with great results. It is called Cytolean and you take if for 6 weeks. Lots of crunches in different positions are also effective. :-)

thanks for the input. Are there any side effects when taking Cytolean that you are aware of?

-- Posted by military wife on Wed, Mar 26, 2008, at 12:06 PM

My question is...I have a friend who battles the bulge, but she can't take any diet-supplements or anything of that sort because her heart and blood pressure won't take the affects of it. Does this Cytolean have those same affects?

There's a pill for belly fat?

Did you hear on the news this morning that new studies link belly fat with increased chances of dementia??

I gotta get rid of this belly!!!

Cytolean is not for everyone and should be discussed with your Dr. if you have high blood pressure or ailments with your heart. The battle of the bulge also can be attacked through proper diet and exercise. Increase in protein in take is critical to attacking body fat. Lean Chicken, Beef, Turkey, Fish, nuts, egg whites are great sources of protein. Slow burning carbohydrates and cutting back on sodium are also critical. If your drinking cola whether it is diet or not I would reccommend that you cut it out from your diet.

thanks for checking my bodyfat today! I was really surprised to find it wasn't higher than that! My husband and I are excited and planning to come down and join!

You didn't have many vegetarian suggestions for protein. Are you pushing meat?

-- Posted by goat lady on Thu, Mar 27, 2008, at 4:36 PM

NO GOAT LADY I AM NOT PUSHING MEAT! Did you ask for any suggestions? Kidney Beans, White Beans, Chic Peas, Eggs and nuts are all great sources of protein. All you have to do is ask!

just b sure to follow the instructions that I gave you and also we will track your body fat on a weekly basis. If you do not object we can post your progress here.

-- Posted by Paul Joiner on Thu, Apr 3, 2008, at 10:38 AM

yikes! That's a scary thought!! LOL!!! I'll do it though, maybe my progress can inspire other women and show them that they can get that pre-baby body back with a little bit of work. I'm really excited and enjoyed my first workout with Nicole yesterday. I'm sore but looking forward to tomorrow! Thank you both for your help

Your welcome and that is what we are here for. :-)

Paul,

What about people with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia? Are there exercises for me that won't cause me any more pain than the conditions I have do?

You also mentioned C-sections causing scarring in reference to losing belly fat. I've had three such vertical incisions and never could lose the "baby fat". Can it be lost due to exercise when you have had c-sections or is surgical reduction my only alternative?

-- Posted by whitefawn on Wed, Apr 9, 2008, at 3:22 PM

Whitefawn,

Exercise helps arthritis and fibromyalgia by adding flexability and strength. Yes there are plenty of exercises you can perform. As far as your scarring, tightening can be done but depending on the damage and amount of scar tissue you may need surgery however the baby fat as you say can be done away with and if you need surgery to remove the scar tissue then it will be very minor as you have removed the fat.

Thanks, Paul. It's reassuring to know that there are exercises I can do with my health problems.
