Keeping up with the times
I must tell you something. I am not computer savvy, or any other electronics-savvy for that matter. Those of you who know me well know how true this is. My daughter, Shelly, has been doing these things for me since she was four years old, and still does. My children and grandchildren not only get frustrated with me, but as they say, I crack them up. Although I have had a computer for many years, I still can only do certain things. I can 'surf the web' and send e-mails. Even that was a task for me to learn.
Then everyone wanted me to start texting. I kept saying no way, but they finally won. So now I have become a texting expert. I even picked up on the abbreviating of words. Or so I thought until I sent one of my grandson's this text message. "Hey Buddy, want fried pot Saturday night?" He about flipped out and said, "Mema! Do you know what you asked me? What kind of Mema do I have?" The look on his face was priceless! Sure I know what I asked him. "Do you want fried potatoes Saturday night?"
Now everyone is wanting me to do facebook. I have been telling them for months that I just don't have time to be on face book; plus the fact is I don't want everyone to know what I say. They keep telling me it is private and that everyone will know only what I want them to know. Finally, when I got the umteenth request from Jan, a precious friend in St. Louis, I decided to join, but only with her and a few others. My goodness, when I joined, all these people popped up wanting to be my friend. Most I knew, many I didn't. I said to my daughter, "I don't want to be friends with all these people! She exclaimed, "M-oom!" I explained to her I didn't not want friends, I just wanted to have time to get used to this facebook stuff.
As I was asking different questions about how face book works, I noticed on the side it asked if I wanted to "poke Sue." Yea I want to poke Sue, for taking my balloons away from me when we were children. Well, you gotta know that is not what it meant. When I asked Gina and Joshua what happened if I clicked on it, they explained to me that it would somehow make her computer wiggle or jiggle or something like that. Then I asked, "The whole computer shakes? HOW?" Talk about losing it they, did. Then through laughter and tears they explained it is only the screen that moves. Now I'm not stupid, but these darn things sure make me feel more than stupid.
OMG! (that means - oh my gosh) you are probably "LOL" (that means laughing out loud) at me by now and wondering about me. Just hang around the "KORNER" with me and you will probably have more laughs at my expense.
By the way, Sue is my very beloved cousin in Chicago.
See you next time in the "Korner."
I want to say thank you to all those of you who are letting me know how much you are enjoying Kathleen's Korner."
