Right around the corner
The "day" is just a few weeks away. It is hard to believe it is about to arrive. However, I have been forewarned - it is close due to the number of pieces of mail I am getting. Actually, I think the mail carrier is delivering to the wrong address and certainly to the wrong person. Or, the people originating the mail has put my name on the wrong piece of paper!
They must be wrong because they keep wanting me to buy a medicare supplement!! You know what that is don't you? It is an insurance plan for the elderly - people 65 and over! Someone even had the audacity to send me one of those red, white and blue cards called a medicare card.
I remember when Collin and I first started selling this type insurance to other people, 65 was ancient. I sold one to Mom when she turned 65, but she was old! I'm not. Mom sure is getting younger.
In my youth I couldn't even think this far ahead. Why did it get here so soon? Even more, how did it get here so soon?
It was un-nerving enough when I became a great-grandmother. Now you know I loved the idea of being a great-grandmother. Wow, Chloe was such a delight! The problem was my daughter. She became a grandmother! How in the world did I ever manage to be the mother of a daughter who is a grandmother? I haven't lived long enough for that to happen.
You know that I believe in reaping what you sow. I guess since I was the first to make Mom a mother, then a grandmother, then a great-grandmother, it is only fair that she gets to see me hit that golden age of 65.
I wonder if any of my classmates are feeling the crunch of time?
When I was young, yesterday, I never thought about getting old. I recently told a young person,"Don't forget, you will be where I am someday, and I have already been where you are now."
The funny thing is when an older person, that's someone older than me, tells me I'm just a young thing, I tell them, "Gee, you're not old. You're only 80" or whatever the case may be. Old age does keep getting younger and younger don't you think?
To be honest, it isn't bad being this age. Hopefully I have grown in lots of area of my life. Maybe a bit wiser. Perhaps a little more understanding. And I certinly hope more able to help direct young people through some of their rough times, but I still have lots of living to do and lots of work to be done. I may think about retiring when I'm a100 years old if Jesus doesn't decide he needs me with him. That will be okay too. I really don't plan on retiring even in Heaven for I know there will be work to do there also. I just pray that I will earn here on earth the right to work there.
Anyway, as soon as I hit that big 6-5 I will let you know how I feel about it. I have already told my family I want a big birthday party. You may even be invited. Umm. Wonder if this has anything to do with me pulling out of the driveway on my way to work and discovering I have the house phone with me? Or, backing out of the garage and oops, another discovery, the garage door isn't open! Naw...
See ya next time somewhere in a "korner."
