Decking the halls
Before I get started, I want to say "thank you" to everyone who has e-mailed, texted, called or stopped by to ask where I have been. You don't know how much that means to me. I appreciate so much you asking me to keep Kathleen's Korner going. As long as Bud and you want me, I will be here. I just had a couple of minor health issues that interfered with my thinking process. One was a hole in my eardrum, "ouch", which is some better.
Now, on with my story.
My sister, Nesi, was at my shop last week decorating for Christmas. You know how Christmas decorating goes. You must scoot this piece over there so you can put that piece here, or in most cases completely re-arrange the entire area. In this case, we had to work around merchandise and do all kinds of antics to even get the area ready for the pretty stuff.
Of course, I absolutely have no talent whatsoever when it comes to this sort of thing.
Every year I dread decorating because it looks so unprofessional. Not that it has to be professional, but you ladies know we want things to look as though there was at least a bit of a magic touch.
I just don't understand, but most of my siblings have a God given talent for this type of work. They are so good at it and I, well, I just don't know where I was when God was passing out talents.
Of course the windows had to be cleaned first, so Gina, my daughter shimmied onto a chair or something to get that job done. I think she waved to each and every passerby.
I'm sure they probably thought she was a mini, Mrs. Santa in the window.
After I ran to all the other businessess in town to get supplies and decorating items, we sorta settled down into a work mode. They were doing their thing and I just kinda walked around watching the work in progress.. It is amazing to watch someone work seemingly so easily and it all comes together. Not for me, I huff and puff and still it doesn't look the way I want it.
I pretty much stayed out of their way unless they wanted to know if I liked something. Of course, there was nothing not to like.
At one point my sister made a suggestion that we move the little yellow lamp from the counter, as she thought it clashed with the Christmas decorations. But, you know, there are just some things that have special meanings to us. This is the case with the 'little yellow lamp'. I explained to Nesi the special meaning of it and that I would rather keep it in its place than to move it for the holidays.
After I shared with her the significance of the lamp, she proceeded to work around it, and with her special touches it fits right in.
I suppose Mary, Dorothy and I are the only ones who know the reason that little lamp is so special and I will leave it at that.
I guess my point is that we don't always have to discard or move something that is special to us in order to decorate for any special occasion. In cases like our 'little yellow lamp', I feel it only improves the beauty of the decorations.
See ya next time somewhere in a corner.
