Calamities and the uses of Super Glue
Here we go again. Another rash of 'mishaps for Kathleen'. I have shared in past columns
some of the ridiculous situations I find myself in. Some I wouldn't dare share with you,
but I wish I could because they are so funny that even I wouldn't believe them if they had
not happened to me.
I sometimes think that God gives me these predicaments to help me keep a smile on my
face when I may not feel like it. And also to help me get past some of the 'not so funny'
things in life. And we all know there are plenty of those to contend with.
I also believe that God gave us super glue for a reason. I know some of you have told me
some of the things you have used it for, so I figured if it worked for you, why not me?
Even though I use a wonderful product on my nails to help keep them strong and not peel
so they can grow, there are things that can be done to them that will cause them to break.
With me, I never just break a small piece or a tip, it is almost always way back on the nail
bed that, 'ouch', hurts. I used to use tape or a bandaid to help keep it in place until it could
grow enough that it wouldn't be painful. But, with my discovery of super glue, ta-daa.
I recently broke not one, but two on the same hand, two or three days apart. I, for whatever
reason jab my nails into things. The first one I recently broke, I was trying to recline my
recliner and my hand slipped off the handle and my nail went head first, or in this case tip
of the nail first, into the wood. And there she went. Oh, it hurt! Here comes the super glue.
At last I got it glued and put back in almost perfect position.
A day or two after that, I ran the one next to it into a cabinet. Now I have two nails on the same
hand super glued in place.
A few days after the last nail mishap, I'm relaxing when I feel something in my mouth that
should not be there. Then I discovered the culprit. Many years ago, Doctor Bob Isbell did a
root canal on one of my upper front teeth. He then put some sort of bonding on it and, thanks
to his expertise, it stayed in place for many years. Then one day when we lived in Alabama,
while eating lunch, it broke off and another dentist there performed the same procedure. That
has been about seventeen years ago.
I am in a panic. This was close to the weekend and Doctor Kane was out of town. I couldn't
get in until the following week. Oh my, what's this girl to do? I couldn't be in public like this!
Fortunantly, the bonding came off in one solid piece. So...what did I do? I call for Doc Collin
(my husband) and show him what just happened. He says, "Want me to super glue it back on?"
Now that put me into another predicament. Did I want super glue in my mouth? Doc Collin
said, "I won't put that much on, just enough to hold it in place until you can get to the dentist."
What else was I to do? So, he dawned his surgical gloves, reclined me back in the recliner and
started his job. I was wishing some of the kids could have been there to see our antics.
He got it attached, but I was paranoid to go to bed, afraid it would come off and I would choke.
It did come off, however I was awake. He put it back on and it stayed in place until I could get
to Doctor Kane. I don't think doctor Kane was real pleased that we used super glue, but with his
kind ways he didn't say much. He got me fixed up and he did say that Collin could be a dentist
any day.
There have been a couple other incidents, but they will have to wait for another time.
You're right. My heroes this week are Doctor Isbell, the Birmingham dentist, Doctor Kane, and
let's not forget 'Doc Collin'. Thanks guys.
See ya next time somewhere in a korner.
