Your Favorite Radio Stations? Programs? Brand of Radio Receiver?Posted Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at 4:47 PM
This blog entry begins with these questions. What are your favorite radio stations? What are your favorite radio programs? What brand of radio receiver do you use?
I'll begin by answering those questions for myself. Since we don't have television, we listen to a lot of radio. I've been an avid listener of shortwave (sw) radio ever since I was just a kid. My first receiver was a Braun AM/FM/shortwave with a phonograph and cabinet. It was bought for 5 bucks at a yard sale. It had the old vacuum tubes! I strung a longwire antenna up on the roof. I've had several cheap analog AM/FM/shortwave portables since then.
Anyway, the radio I now have is a Grundig S450DLX. This is the upgraded replacement for S350DLX. Features include built in fine tuning for single sideband. I bought it a couple months ago at Radio Shack at the mall in Cape Girardeau. It receives AM, FM, and shortwave. It receives all shortwave frequencies, continuous from 1.7 to 30 MHz, covering all 13 international shortwave broadcast bands of 11, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 31, 41, 49, 60, 75 and 90 meters.
My FM listening includes a variety of Christian radio. American Family Radio AFR) can be heard on 88.5. Bible Broadcasting Network (BBN) is heard on 88.7. Bott Radio (Christian talk radio) has several frequences: 90.5, 91.7, 98.3, and 99.7. Then there are two Southern Gospel stations: KOKS 89.5 and KMHM 104.1. BBN plays traditional Gospel music and has great Christian programs. My favorite is Christian Classics, the reading of fiction and non-fiction stories.
My favorite AM stations are 640 AM (Bott Radio, Memphis) and KLID 1340 AM, Poplar Bluff. KLID is an Accent Radio Network affiliate.
But, shortwave radio is my favorite alternative media. WTJC 9.370 mhz is the Fundamental Broadcasting Network (FBN) shortwave affiliate. WWCR (World Wide Christian Radio) is heard on a number of sw frequencies: 3.215mhz, 4.840mhz, 5.070mhz, 5.935mhz, 7.465mhz, 7.490mhz, 9.350mhz, 9.980mhz, 9.985mhz, 12.160mhz, and 13.845mhz. WINB and WHRI are two other Christian sw stations heard on a number of frequencies. WWCR is Genesis Communications Network.
FBN, WWCR, and Accent Radio uses Information Radio Network USA Radio News for their news at the top of each hour. BBN and the two Southern Gospel stations use Salem Radio Network news. Bott Radio is Christian talk radio. My favorite talk shows on the Bott Radio stations are Jay Sekulow Live, Richard Land Live, and the Bible Answer Man. Accent Radio has several talk programs. My favorite is Straight Talk With Jerry Hughes. Genesis Communications Network is also talk radio. Alex Jones Info Wars is my favorite talk program on GCN.

My wife Susan (Sue) and I have lived in Soddard County since September of '96. We both graduated from Bible Missionary Institute, our denomination's small four year Bible college in Rock Island, Illinois. I was born and raised in Pomona, California while my wife was raised in Monmouth, Illinois. I am an ordained minister in the Bible Missionary Church. We attend and are members of the Dexter Bible Missionary Church. I've been employed by Tyson Foods for 14 years. My wife is a CNA. I've always been conservative in my political views and have always been active in politics and the Pro-Life movement. My politics have not always been Republican. From 2003-2009 I was vice-chairman of the Prohibition National Committee, the steering arm of the Prohibition Party. In '09, I joined the Constitution Party of Missouri. But, I've been attending the GOP rallys and club meetings since last year and have been campaigning for certain Republican candidates since we moved to this area. I'm on the SEMO Life Chain Committee.
