In The Shadow Of The Cross
Born in a manger in the shadow of a cross
Innocence purity to a world that was lost
Leaving the glory of His Father behind
Into this dark world the Light came to shine
He lived among us without spot or blemish
The Lamb of GOD from birth to finish
His words were simple a child heart could understand
Lives were changed by the touch of His hand
His life an example of how we should live
Love not a possession but something we give
But darkness resisted as it always does
Desiring the past and the way it was
Falsely accused yet not speaking a word
Love silently spoke and His Father heard
Beaten and bruised wearing a crown of thorns
Dignity was taken as the Lamb was shorn
As disciples were silent the crowd made their choice
Sealing His fate the darkness rejoiced
Beyond the Cross trapped hopelessly in sin
By walls and bars that would let no one in
In a prison of self that I called "free"
Aimlessly I wandered unable to see
Always seeking but never able to find
That missing piece of heart soul and mind
Upon the canvas my life was portrayed
Lost love, shattered dreams, mistakes I had made
Colorful stories recalling the fun I had
Somehow forgetting all the suffering and bad
I held up the picture for all to see
The portrait was empty or was it me
As He stumbled on His way to Calvary
One from the crowd was given the cruel tree
In His final hour the burden was too great
An unworthy person carried the weight
While Simon struggled with the weight of the cross
Jesus was faced with the sins of the lost
In love He spread His arms as hatred drove the nails
Love held back the rescue of His Father's many angels
His body hung in dishonor along with two thieves
At the ridicule of the religious The Holy Spirit grieved
He drank fully that day from the cup of sin
And darkness hungrily came crashing in
His blood flowed to the ground below
The light was quickly losing it's glow
And then it was finished the Son of GOD died
The sacrifice completed the Father cried
Darkness rejoiced at it's victory over GOD and the Light
Over righteousness and godliness and all that was right
But then the Light rekindled and shone brightly in the night
The bonds of sin were broken and the blind received their sight
The prison doors were opened and the lost found their way
Those who walked in darkness now live in the day
Born in a manger in the shadow of a cross
Innocence purity to a world that was lost
.....peace.....
