The Overwhelming Plain
I stand and behold the overwhelming plain
Endlessly stretching beyond what eye can see
Limitless are the possibilities
I cannot see when I look at me
I look for easy answers to take away my pain
Not understanding the storm brings much needed rain
Before the high winds the tall grass bends
I hear thunder not the answer Spirit sends
Unable to escape from daily reality
Living a life of confusing duality
Dreaming of a place of lifelong simplicity
My spirit only hears words of duplicity
A trail of tears lead away from the plain
That which I cling to only brings pain
I look back to where I had once been
Lightning beckons me again and again
Hailstones from above are carefully hurled
Attacking what holds me captive to this world
The storm passes thru and so do I
My answer found me from the sky
.....peace.....
Pain is an old friend who it took me a long time to understand. He never came to visit when I was prepared for him, always stayed longer than I wanted him to, and could not understand why others avoided him. His traveling companion is Love, a delightful one who has a way of making the heart smile and cry at the same time. But I have learned that love seldoms stays where pain cannot go and that there are lessons in this life only pain can teach.
