Connections
Furiously working on a project, it was finally complete and ready to submit. She opened a new window and clicked to connect to the Internet. Nothing happened; blank screen.
Scanning her icons on the page, she clicked again to open her web browser. Nothing happened. Moving to her security icon she noted it had just updated and scanned her system for problems. So, if she waited patiently for a couple of moments, she could try again--the system was rebooting itself.
Impatient, she clicked on the connection icon to see if the system had finished resetting itself. "Additional information may be required for sign-in" it said . . . almost finished . . . connected. Fabulous, now she could connect.
Clicking the browser icon her screen blossomed with the home page. Moving to the email icon, she clicked and switched back to her document to check it one final time. It was ready to go. Switching back to the email, she clicked on "compose" to begin a new email to attach the document and send her project off through cyberspace. Nothing happened. ARRRGGGGG!
Switching once again to the connection box, she noted that she was connected, the wifi signal was strong, but nothing was happening. A loud crash and scraping sound from outside caught her attention. They were working on the road--a backhoe was digging the road up as they were installing the new water system in town. The house vibrated from the motors of the machines working outside her home. Great, they must have disturbed the line connecting her internet access.
Moving to the wifi modem in the house she noticed the red light indicating a disruption in service. She reset the modem; hoping it would reset itself quickly while fearful that the backhoe had accidentally cut her lines, buried alongside the road. The system reset and green lights appeared.
Going back to the computer, she checked her connection icon; found it connected; switched to the email, attached the document and hit the send button while praying it would get out this time. The beautiful "message sent" notice appeared to her great relief.
The Internet can be a wonderful tool and at times the bane of existence. Modern society has become dependent upon the information, entertainment, and tools available through it. Because of the ease of access a person can live one place and send their work anywhere in the world without leaving the comfort of home. However, when there is no internet connection--all communication fails. Everything is still in place and still available, but we have trouble connecting.
Our relationship with God is often like our connection to the internet. It is there. It is available. Sometimes it seems to be drawn from thin air. Sometimes there is a cable connecting us. The connections can be shaken, abused, and at times need to be reset, but God is always there; waiting for us to open ourselves.
Unseen, ignored, patient, enduring, sustaining God, open our eyes, ears, and hearts so that we maintain our connections with you. Thanks for always being there. Thanks for "resetting" our connections when we need it. So be it. Amen.
