If you're not High-Ballin', You're not Callin"

Posted Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at 12:46 AM

Just too much time talking about duck hunting, yet, my friend down on the Marais de Cygnes reserve in east central Kansas, has made limited out hunts for several days now, his tail-gate photos with Zeke, his pointing Labrador, machine of a dog, give me no doubt of the collective prowess!! The latest issue was five green-heads and one red-head drake!!! A red-head!!! I have arrived in this modern age, in rememberance of a time when there were no red-heads, there were no canvas-backs, and taking a wood duck would result in a fine of $150 or better!!! Our collective efforts, in improving our waterfowl habitats both up north and our feeding habitat in our Mississippi Flyways areas, have brought us to this time, we have birds to harvest, we have habitat to enjoy, and will continue to love our outdoors in the autumn, whether we are calling a "high ball", or a clucking feed call on our blind, we'll always love our time "in the blind"!!!!!Stay Warm, Be Well, and Get Some Birds!!!Thanksgiving is just a shout ahead!!!just kicking a subject, loving the time, watching my birds, and being with the time...molater, kkr

I remember Mrs. Toner--small, neat, always dressed in a tidy gray suit--but I had the business teacher who looked a bit like a bulldog. She was nice and quite patient, but I was always afraid I would forget her real name (as I now have!) and would call her "Mrs. Bulldog"!

I appreciate your love of nature, kk, but I have no clue as to how you can kill those beautiful little ducks! I would much rather collect them in photographs.

Goat Lady, dear, dear, how could you forget Ms. Vaughn?????, at least she was MY BusLaw teacher at DHS!!!!....and yes I do confess to taking my camera out to the blind at times when the shooting slows down, I can get some great shots of SKY!!!!!!!!....and I do appreciate the grace and beauty of waterfowl in migration, the poise and symmetry of motion from ducks coming into the water, just at that moment when they flare out to land, gorgeous stuff, at least it is after I've nailed my limit for the day, then I just watch the dog and practice my calling (still needs practice)......Be Well, lady, molater, kkr

Bearcat66, I'm short on the synapses with Bill Ash, I'll dig out my old Cotton Bolls and see if I can find him, now you've got me trying to figure out who YOU are, I had Ms. Toner, in junior year, so you would have been a sophomore, I'll get it sooner or later, but Ellen Sitton was a secretary in the office, so......anyhoo, we'll be around, molater, kkr

Well, that's scary--I need to drag out the Reveille myself... That name is completely gone from my memory!

I was long gone before you two came along!

KK/Madam 'Goat Lady': '66 Reveille-Miss Marilyn Hampton-Sec. KK: I knew Bill @ SEMO; and, I am almost certain he told me he had been married to this lady between '66 and '69/'70. Lost contact with him around that time...wondering if Mrs. Stoll retired in '66 or so?

The only Mrs. Stoll I knew was my English teacher (I think) in 7th and 8th grade, when Central Elementary wasn't the Central Gardens Retirement Home.

Who was the gorgeous, willowy superintendent's secretary in the late fifties, when Thurston Hill's office was in the high school? Was that Edwina Weber? I don't really think so, but...I don't have a Reveille handy. I really didn't pay much attention to secretaries...
