Ward graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in psychology. He also has 21-hour concentration in environmental science, social studies and education.
Ward started following sports in southeast Missouri when he was five-years-old in 1991. In the 2009-10 basketball season, he watched 84 varsity basketball teams play a total of 147 varsity games. He has also attended the state basketball, baseball and volleyball tournaments the last three seasons. His favorite baseball memory is watching the St. Louis Cardinals defeat the Texas Rangers in the 2011 World Series.
Ward completed an internship in the summer of 2010 at semoball.com. During the internship he had the opportunity to visit and photograph the athletic facilities at all 58 semoball schools. He also researched the district and state championship histories of 55 schools and used the Cover it Live application to cover the Senior Babe Ruth state baseball tournament. After the internship he served as sports editor at Daily Dunklin Democrat in Kennett, Mo., from 2011-2013.
Dexter youth football, volleyball and soccer registration underway
Registration is underway for Dexter Parks and Recreation youth football, volleyball and soccer.
The deadline to register for youth football and youth volleyball is Aug. 21. The deadline to register for youth soccer is Aug. 27.
YOUTH FOOTBALL
Youth football is open to athletes entering the third, fourth, fifth or sixth grade. Athletes must be present at the time of registration so they can be weighed using DPR scales. Registration is accepted at the Dexter Parks and Recreation offices Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
There is also an evening registration for youth football on Aug. 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dexter Parks and Recreation Sports Complex. Equipment fitting will be available at the evening registration.
Football equipment and game schedules will be distributed on Aug. 24.
Football practices are slated to take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Coaches may add additional practice dates.
Youth football season starts Sept. 12 and ends Oct. 10.
Fifth and sixth graders will travel and have home games. Teams currently scheduled are Jackson, Kennett, New Madrid, Malden and Portageville.
Third and fourth graders will play the majority of their games at Dexter, but may travel to Jackson or New Madrid.
Registration is $55 per athlete.
A one-day youth football camp is slated to take place Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Dexter Parks and Recreation Baseball Complex. Lunch will be provided and players will receive a football.

YOUTH VOLLEYBALL
Youth volleyball is open to athletes entering the fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh grades.
Coaches will schedule their own practices as gym space is available at the Dexter Parks $ Recreation Gym and the Old Gym on Park Lane.
Volleyball games will be played during the week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and on Saturday and Sunday afternoons if necessary.
Players will be placed on teams by luck of draw.
Registration is $45 per athlete and $12 for kneepads.

YOUTH SOCCER
Youth soccer registration is open to athletes entering Kindergarten, first grade, second grade and third grade.
Practices will take place at the coach's discretion as fields are available.
Soccer matches will be played on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday with makeup games taking place on Mondays and Wednesdays if needed.
Registration is $37 per athlete. Shin guards are required to compete and are available at the park office if needed for $12.
