Searching for perfectionPosted Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 8:12 AM
They are so excited that they might end this season undefeated. This team has worked so hard to get where they are...even in the instructional league. In the picture, bottom row, from left: Bronwen Young, Kelly Baker, Cassidy Billingsley, Emily Jarrell, Madilyn Hampton, and Kyla Propst. 2nd row, from left: Colby Hawkins, Cody Urchison, Spencer Warren, Alexis Burns, Jacob Billingsley, Andrew Ellinghouse, and Nate Bryant. Coaches are Kenny Burns on the left, and Dave Ellinghouse on the right. Congratulations to all of our fine summer teams and a big 'thank you' to all of the coaches and everyone who helped out this year. Thanks so much Bobby! Go Team MSH! I am so proud of these kids and the coaches...they've all worked really hard to get where they are. And a big thank you to all the parents for their continued support of this great group of kids...without them (they're such a great group of cheerleaders ;-Þ), this team wouldn't be what it is!
I am a mother to one of these kids and I have to say they have worked so hard to get where they are and we are all so proud of them, also the coaches have done an excellent job in showing them what to do and maintaining patience with them. Congratulations team MSH!!!
Oh and I almost forgot, Thanks so much Bobby for making this team stand out for their performance, as a parent I can say they really enjoy the spotlight!
My pleasure!
You're such a sweetheart, Bobby Greer! ;-Þ And thanks for the new face, mrsd!
Bobby, I am proud to inform you that Team MSH sought, and acheived, perfection! All the parents are so very proud of how hard the kids worked for this, and how much fun they had doing it is what matters the most! Congrats Team MSH...it's been a great season with you all!
Your welcome GL. ;-Þ
I know I am getting ready to ruffle a few feathers here, but is it really that important that a team of five and six year olds are going to go undefeated. I think it is absolutely great that the kids are out there doing something active and learning to play a sport. And kudos to the coaches that give up their time to help these kids learn. But to say they enjoy the spotlight. That may be going a little overboard with children this young. Let them get excited about getting a free soda after the game, not about winning or losing.
Bon, that comment wasn't necessary...was it?
But to argue your...ummm...point...it's good to teach kids to be competitive. It's the foundation of moving up in your career and going for your dreams. They have loved every bit of this season...from the game, to their teammates, to being featured on this blog. They deserve it. Besides...do you honestly think giving children soda is a reward???
If you notice.. it says right above the box you type this is.. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF OTHERS AND TRY TO STAY ON TOPIC....
Yes, BONSCOTT, its on topic... but TOTALLY DISRESPECTFUL to say that about children.
I played sports as a kid, my father coached, my brother played, my lil sister played, and hopefully my kids will play, geez, makes you feel good to be "in the spotlight" .. do you have kids? have you ever been in the spotlight? or wanted to be... I agree with all of these parents and AM VERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY PROUD OF THE YOUNG ONES.. You all are great, awesome, and deserve much more than just a free SODA after winning games!!! My props to kids and the parents. Keep up the great work everyone !!!
Good job kids, coaches, and parents.
I agree with mrsdolphin. Giving these kids props like this is what teaches them that hard work really does pay off.
Kudos to you Bobby for doing this for them.
Okay, okay, I thought this was a very cute local blog topic, and I enjoyed reading it, even though it's been about 25 years since my kids were involved in stuff like this. So, as for the appropriateness of the blog topic - I say it's great. Thanks, Bobby!
As for the competitiveness for young kids, I think that's good, too, as long as the parents don't get so involved in it that they feel themselves and their children threatened if they lose games, tournaments, etc. It's all a matter of perspective.
As for the blog site instructions for us to be "respectful," I would hate to see us all being little namby-pambies, who are afraid to disagree with each other. Yeah, a topic concerning kids is usually considered "off limits," but - hey, bon scott and his buddies have been a lot more "disrespectful" than this on other blogs! Sometimes I just cruise around, lookin' for places where he & Shannonhoon are shakin' things up! Hahaha! Free speech, ya know! That's what it's all about!
Alright, here goes. I figured that would be the response and you guys are totally missing my point. Yes, I have kids(they are adults now). Yes, I have been in the spotlight, a lot. And yes, kids absolutely need recognition. But the problem I have with the whole thing is you are putting to much attention on WINS and LOSSES and the kids are ONLY five and six years old. I have umpired/officiated/coached many different sports and the biggest problem is the parents, not the kids. I just think this type of thing will send the wrong message in the future. Just my opinion and I understand 99% of you will not agree.
P.S. I WAS NOT trying to be disrespectful in any way.
Bon..I just want to start by saying "If you cant say nothing nice dont say nothing at all".
On another note we had an excellent group of parents with this team , not one of them stressed to their child that its more than just fun and games and if they so happen to win them then yah for them. It was not about pressure it was pure fun!! Go TEAM MSH!!
Unfortunately, some parents do push their kids too far, and teach them that winning is the only important thing. But that's why I praised the parents of this team so much. We never pushed winning...we pushed having fun, we pushed for learning a new sport, and we pushed for completing what they started when some wanted to give up. We praised for a job well done, and we cheered even when they struck out. It's a delicate balance...and the parents and coaches of this team did AWESOME!
So congrats MSH...I can't wait for the opportunity to play with some of you again next season.
Bon:
You must be on the highway to HELL. Don't dis parents of 5-6 year olds for celebrating a season of perfection.... These 5-6 year olds dominated, like Lindell Martin on a Puxico backboard, and they should be commended. When I coached in this league, I tricked our entire team into thinking we had won EVERY game when really we didn't win but one or two. My favorite line in this entire blog is Bobby saying, "If WE win the next game..............." WE? Now that is funny. Congrats to the kids and to the parents, enjoy these glory days you obviously never got to experience but proudly live through your kids.
Wow! Hats off to all these children, coaches and parents for going undefeated. I think it is good to teach our youth that winning is important, but not the most important part of the game. From what Team MSH should be commended for their successes on the ball field as well as the coaches who took time to lead these boys and girls through a victorious season.
goat lady is right on. If Bon Scott offended anybody then I suggest you grab a box of Kleenex when you go blogging. Angels and shorty need check their diapers at the door when they enter the arena. Here are two good examples of an unnecessary softening of SPIRIT...get a grip people!
shannonhoon, I am NOT on a highway to HELL, thank you very much. But sometimes I do get thunderstruck hoping my kids go undefeated in all of their sports programs. Oh, the glory days of "suicide sodas" and 5 cent bubble gum.
shannonhoon, why don't you take your sarcasm and disrespectful ways to another thread. This was done to celebrate the kids doing such a good job...not to give you an outlet for your bitterness.
It's amazing how some people just can't enjoy a positive story like this one. I agree with luvs_angels80...if you can't say nothing nice, don't say nothing at all!
Ok, now that I have seen it twice, could you please TRY to use proper grammer while blogging. And let me know how many 5-6 year olds read the newspaper, I'm curious.
I have seen, first hand, the devastating results caused by parents who don't understand the importance of winning. I vaguely remember this poor kid in high school named Jimmy Joe or something like that... his dad thought it was all about the game - he never could see that winning was everything.
I think if you are going to coach as a parent you should just try to make your kids feel "loved" like these parents did:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2LDmaPtb...
the title says it all: "Overinvolved parents" seriously funny. I mean let's just wipe our kids noses for them during the middle of the game. Unfortunately Bon - kids probably can't enjoy something as simple as a soda anymore - mom probably runs a four course meal out to them along with a table cloth and untensils and forces Lawson to play the violin while they eat. No wonder kids are babies.
I remember when I got my can of soda out of the cooler my parents made me open it with my teeth and then if we didn't win or achieve "perfection" I would have to walk home. Yes, over the overpass, and it was as almost as scary as the way my dad acted every time the ump missed a call. Afterall, can you blame my dad? The umps were blind and I was just about to achieve perfection... you know this isn't the first time in dexter history a team has achieved perfection. Did you hear about any of the legendar Fiddler's teams in the mid 1980's or perhaps you watched some of the magic of the Ann's Levis Teams of 85/86 fame. Congrats to bobby and family my parents have "been there done that" and they still sit at the dinner table and talk about it - it was just 25 years go, but man it feels like yesterday.
Mrs. Dolphin - Welcome to the Jungle!
Well, I wake up this morning to find the whole Shannonhoon crowd back together again on the most unlikely of blogs! Even dimebag's takin' the plunge! Haha! See, mrsd, you thought SH was "disrespectful.." Then along comes DB and shows you just how rudely realistic that bunch of rowdies can be! Yeah, yeah, I know they offend our delicate sensibilities, but DB is right -- Bloggerland IS, after all, a jungle!
And, actually, if you forget how rude SH has been in the past, he was remarkably well-behaved this time! But, SH, really - isn't it a bit hypocritical for you to fall back on the old "bad grammar" bit? Haha! C'mon, now, since when has grammar really mattered on these blogs? I have to overlook it all the time - and grammar has been my "bag" for almost 50 years...
Bobby Greer...I'll bet you never expected such controversy over a kid's ball season, didya???
Ooops, sorry! I should have read more closely (notice the proper grammar, bon?).....It was BonScott who took a shot at the grammar -- not shannonhoon! Oh, well...what's the diff? They're all a part of the BadBoyBloggers, anyway..
You hurt my Soul One. Let me get this straight though. IF you have a differing opinion and think a topic deserves humor, sarcasm, and a lighter side.....you are disrespectful? All I am saying is that the 5-6 year old league shouldn't even be keeping SCORE. That league is for kids to learn HOW to play a game. They should use a TEE if some of the kids cannot hit a coach thrown pitch, so ALL the kids have a chance to run the bases. By bringing back the Nation of Dead Rock Stars and finding humor in any adult who thinks it is important that 5-6 year olds are perfect, I didn't mean to be disrespectful.......disagreeable, YES....but disrespectful...Nope. And I ain't worryin' if you folks don't type with good grammar, actually expect it.
"Nation of Dead Rock Stars..." Mmm...should I google that to find out what it is, Mr. "Self-appointed-Statesman-Blogger-Rock-Authority"? (I can't sing on the blogs, anymore, 'cause I'm afraid I'll get the lyrics wrong...)
Hehe...there's a fine line between "disagreeable" and "disrespectable..."
Shall we take a vote??
Hey, I can handle disagreeable. In fact, sometimes I actually enjoy the controversy aroused in these blogs.
Keep it up Bobby. I enjoyed the original blog and I've enjoyed the blogfighting.
Goat....Rock the Vote and see what happens.
Come, now listen babe, I got a reason why I behave,
Like a child with a light in his eyes running naked a cool winter night
Like a pigeon who is spreading her wings to fly away to better things,
Like a hammer that has made a dent in every little single cent you spent............OH ....................
Sing along if you'd like
Dimebag...you know the words?
yep - I mean afterall this is me and that's my song and you and I guess you can see that is the reason you and dolphin don't get along...
true dat fo sho.
speaking of blog fighting bob, another good topic - "Which of the following would/ should cost you more time in prison if the crime is committed in stoddard county: dogfighting, child molestation, selling drugs that take a man's life, or attempted murder?" Opinions??
Sorry - dimebag is turning blog-master.
Everybody wakes and in the morning. Hot tea can't stop yarning. Pass the butter please Have you ever read the Daily Statesman. Reading all about the plane that's landed upside down and the team that is achieving perfection...? Everyone knows what I do today. There can be no other way
But I would just like to say that Rice Bowl team (circa 86) could really play.
Nobody's got nuthin on those dog charges yet, dimebag.
Nothing but a little lack of freedom Goat.
Dime: You are on drugs. May want to check out Betty Jo's blog on coffee and bragging on being busy. You can fill her in on your drug of choice.
Also, since the supreme court ruled in favor of NO death penalty for child rapists, I would say dog fighting in StoCo gets the maximum. ruff ruff.
How did we know you'd say that, sh?
I notice that the charges have temporarily been dropped on Pickering...
So, do I assume that what's-his-name (How could I forget??) is sitting in the hoosecal? (After the last blog furor, maybe it's just as well I don't mention his name...)
Be sure to post on Bobby's new blog, courtesy of Mr. Dime. Maybe you could sing a clever song...
Hoon - drug of choice??? Well what have you got? I don't go broke...and I do it alot. Yeah, I do it alot.
Its not late....nah, nah, its EARLY. Baaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh Baaaaaahhhhhh Black Sheep, have you any wool? Yes sir Yes sir 3 Dimebags full.
Got many more tunes to sing.......Goat, laugh a little.
Wow, This Whole Conversation in Comments ended up on drugs... crazy how a parent can start off being proud of their child for being on a undefeated team, and it gets turned into ...
"Hoon - drug of choice??? Well what have you got? I don't go broke...and I do it alot. Yeah, I do it alot.

Anyway, thanks Bobby for posting this Blog in recognition to all the kids, UNDEFEATED SEASON, its greatly appericated, b/c I am pround to say I know 1 of the kids personaly and Consider them like a nephew. SO, its made me even more proud to see them in the SPOTLIGHT!!! CONGRADS KIDS!
One, that's what happens when the BadBoyBlogger's Club takes notice of a blog. We get rock music and drug talk. I wonder if they're really as baaaad as they seem?? I hope not!!
GL, I seriously doubt it. They're probably just reliving their high school glory...
I don't mind a good arguement on here...Lord knows that...I just don't understand why they have to butt in on a blog that was meant to be a good thing, and turn it into such a bad thing. It wasn't necessary...and it's actually kind of sad that this is what it's turned into. "The Badboy Bloggers Club" really needs to learn that, while they're saying we need to laugh a little, they're comments really make it look like they have an enormous chip on their shoulders.
No chip and I would say that my man, Bon, typed a serious opinion......If polled right now, The folks on here agreeing/disagreeing with Bon would be 8 for celebrating 5-6 year olds winning and 4 saying that keeping score and celebrating a bunch of kids who won't even make their HS teams is not a big deal. IF you polled the entire league of parents, you all would be in an incredible minority....even those who KNOW competition is a good thing, would not think it is a big deal in a 5-6 year old leauge full of kids who don't know what a force out means.
Keep laughing Dolphin....try and get Goat to also.
You guys still haven't figured it out. If you would have read my orignal comments, I am not disrespecting the kids or taking anything away from them. I wouldn't do that in a million years. It's about the parents and wanting an article written about a bunch of 5-6 year old children that might go undefeated in an instuctional league. Would you have wanted the same article if the team was 7-6? I believe hoon made the point earlier. Why in the world are you even keeping score. Who cares who wins or loses. And why are the coaches pitching to these kids? Shouldn't they be hitting off a tee, which puts your swing on the right plane(Major League players still hit off of tees). And the comment about trying to relive high school glory....from my experience, the people that want to relive high school glory are the ones that never had any and try to do so through their children, with articles like this. Sorry for the lengthing babble, but it truly infuriates me to watch and listen to adults act like this with their kids sports. That's all I got. PEACE OUT!!
I will have a drink on that Bon. I think that is the very point that was not understood in this entire post. NOT ONE post was disrespecting a bunch of 5-6 year old boys and girls trying to learn a sport. The entire negativity came down on recognizing them for something that is rather meaningless at this stage. You bring up the tee and that is a GREAT point. Dexter 's leagues have several changes that could be made and need to and the addition of a tee is one of them. Another point well taken is the sight of parents sitting in the stands going crazy over a 5-6 or 7-9 or 10-13 year old game when they didn't even put on a jock or play a sport past Little League. Now, on to more stupid stuff like cutting down trees and favorite songs and Josh Doudy going to Advance.
Hoon, what makes you think I'm not laughing?? I laugh everytime you post a comment - even though you're only slightly less disreputable than dimebag.
You and your headbanging buds have made some unexpectedly rational observations about the effects of early competition on young psyches -- That's in total contradiction to all that riotous talk about drugs and rock music (which we all know corrupts the young mind!!).
No wonder dolphin thinks you have a chip on your shoulder.
Now let's see who can separate the truth from the fiction in what I'VE said...
By the way, what does Josh Dowdy have to do with this conversation? Are you fishing for a reaction?
This is the last post I'll make...so as some of you are sighing, saying "Thank God" I'd like to say this...
I'm infuriated myself. Some of you have made this WHOLE blog look as if we, the parents, are only doing this to live out some unfound glory through our children, or because we're cheering for something that doesn't even matter...well, you're WRONG!
My entire intentions on requesting this blog was to congratulate for a job well done. Most of the kids on our team were ready to quit by the second practice...but they stuck it out...and this is where it got them. They didn't quit, they learned about a new sport that they could love to play and watch for the rest of their lives, and they HAD FUN DOING IT!!! I don't care if they would have went 0-14...I'm still proud, as is the rest of the parents on this team, and all the others! We cheer at games to keep good morale, and let them know that, yeah, that play you just made was exactly what you were supposed to do!
Then comes along everyone who just had to make me feel, and seem to be, a parent out for bragging rights, and nothing more. My child battles ADHD and bipolar everyday of his life! For him to feel accomplished is VERY good for his morale...as it is for ANY other kid. So get off my back, and everyone else whom is for this post, and leave it alone.
Oh, one more thing...thanks for ruining such a wonderful, HARMLESS thing!
These kids are so cute and what a winning streak they have had; that's an amazing achievement!!!! How did they do at the game on Thurs? Win or no win, what a season, huh?
Oh, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of your kids or of the children of others. To at least TRY is an accomplishment when you are discussing young children; whether the children were to have won every game during the season or not! I, for one, am very proud, and no, I do not have a child on the team nor am I related to anyone of the little tikes in the pic.!!!
Someone get a net for Dolphin.....
Last post (maybe) from me on this one. Won't disrespect these little dudes.....just really have a problem with the emphasis on a W and a record at ages 5-6. That is all. Hope the sarcasm, rough humor, and jabs were taken lightly and hope Dolphin didn't throw herself at a propeller.
Sorry, didn't see the post about the final win! Congrats to all the kids on the team and hope next year is just as great...now, go CELEBRATE!!!
This was fun. No hard feelings.
And with all that said, I think it's great these kids had a perfect season and then most of the comments here were misinterpreted b/c then came the explanations to the misinterpretations that didn't clear anything up. But hey, I have no hard feelings like goat lady...she's one cool gal!
Im just glad everyone on the team got to play and have fun. Nothing worse than when some STUPID coach favors one kid over another.
Wait...I just looked at the team picture. Girls and Boys on the same team! They are lucky they won any games. Leave it to some parent that didnt have boys to demand his girls get to play. Well, they can play...SOFTBALL!
To all the parents. Congradulations, on raising great kids. Not all kids, have parents that will teach them, and practice with them. MrsDolphin, you're a great mother, I know you and your kids personally, and Dont let what Hoon and Bon say about this blog affect you, im sure you wont, but on the other hand, your boys know whose proud of them, and I am very glad this blog was posted, im done, this is my final post on this blog. Its parents like you, that will raise good sportsman up. Keep up the good work, Kudos to you MrsDolphin!!!
-
And if Hoon and Bon do affect you, you are one unstable human being. Read the posts Shortstuff. And you are right, not all parents practice with their kids....This team had several that didn't, they were just lucky enough to get picked randomly on a team with a handful of the best kids in the league. Congrats to the kids for playing and being active and good luck choosing whether to play college ball or sign the big contract.
Ok, I can't do it...Cliff...this is the only league that girls play baseball with the boys, then they move on to seperate leagues. That's why it's called the "Instructional League." That being said...some of those girls were better than some of the boys. Some people (girls included) are better at sports than others, even in the early years. I can throw/pitch a baseball better than most of the guys I know, and I can take a tackle as well...so what's your point? Just b/c they're girls doesn't mean they can't be good. I figured someone would get on here and say something so childish. I give hoon and other props for not stooping that low...yet, the terds thing is kinda pushing it a bit.
Haha, I agree, dolphin, but then everybody knew I would. I thought I remembered Burton making some remark about girls....but I couldn't find it on Bobby's most recent blog. Aha! Here it is!
Sounds to me like he's just trying to get something started. Sort of a "hoon copycat." Thinks he can out-hoon hoon...
Dolphin, I'd love to see you in action! You go, girl!!
mrsdolphin, I have to ask you. What kind of guys are you hanging out with that can't throw a baseball better than a girl? They must work at the local boutique. Just curious.
NOBODY puts HOON in the corner. You can't out HOON a HOON.
Goat and Dolphin....what a pair. Dolphin, where did you play football at?
And please tell me you have called kids terds before.......please.
Hoon - she played for Miami back in the Shula days...
Maybe she was the mom of one of the players on the undefeated '72 team. I bet she brought the orange slices for halftime.
Well, well...the only one missing from this rowdy little party is dimebag darrell... Are you boys havin' fun?? Thought you'd slip in here after hours & raise a ruckus, didn'tcha?
Now, now, you know dolphin is puttin' the kids to bed, so you'll have to wait till morning to get a proper come-uppance...
I think we know that the ladies would never call the young ones "terds.." How crass!
Uhhhh - I am not trying to be critical here but I believe the correct spelling is "TURD" - all caps intentional.
Second, dolphin it sounds like you may have a pair since you can take a tackle like that, dare to impress - I think Sheena is back...
Hey Tone - where are you ?- sheena's back. Rollin in yo schwinn blazin up a fatty like a pimp without a caddy?
Hold up. The only reason I log in "after hours" is because I have a job and cant sit here all day waiting for someone to say something.
Where is Jimmy Morrison and ole uni-arm Rick Allen? Surely they are up, its only 11.
I like terd, but agree about the caps.....so for me it will be, man, those little TERDS really did good tonight.
Dolphin is NOT going to be happy about that one and I hope I don't get blamed for any of this. I do endorse the lyrics though and I myself have never had a caddy.
CB - playing mad riffs from a cloud up above is not a job. I, on the other hand, am down in a hole and don't know if I can be saved...
Youre right. I cant remember anything. Cant tell if this true or dream.
Wish there was something different to talk about. These animal people and parents get so worked up. You know..topics like Should extremly hairy people be allowed in public pools? Or maybe..should people with really long toes wear sandals? How about this one. People with weird body shapes like long necks. Just a thought.
PS Duck and Goat I dont know you so if all of these apply to you it was unintentional.
Man Cliff, that bus ride must have really messed you up. I would leave those topics up to Betty Jo.
Should have taken the top bunk! And youre right. Who am I to think I can come up with topics. Im not the Master of Blogs pulling the strings.
CB - you need to stick to the Kill 'Em All album and prior. None of the other songs apply b/c you lost that card game to James Hetfield, he took your bunk, the bus flipped, and you are now on the other side pal.
For the record - my feet look great in sandals and my toes aren't (that) hairy anymore. cawwwwww
Miami? I'd NEVER play for Miami!
I'm a tom boy. I don't have a pair...I'm just tough. I'm not a whiny chick when it comes to pain...and I don't back down when it comes to a challenge. Want proof...tell me another woman that can rebuild a 302 or 350, change her own oil and brakes, and teach her husband how to do some of the above!
Go ahead...call me a redneck...love the title. I was raised by my dad, therefore I know how to do those types of things. Guess it's a good thing I had boys, huh?
Good morning, dolphin! Wow, you stayed up later than all the headbanger boys! I never expected that! (Or did you just get up earlier?)
I guess you get to pick up all the empty bottles and wrappers from their wild party. They were busy last night, as you can see. Probably a good thing that I don't understand half of what they're praddling on about...No idea who Sheena is...or when they got off on sandals and hairy feet...I guess you get desperate at 11 p.m...
Interesting biographical info about the rebuilding an engine bit. Your boys are lucky! You wouldn't have liked the pageant circuit, for sure.
Layne I'm a bit disappointed in you. MOP doenst just apply to me..I helped write it!! Put down the needle and grab youre disk. Check out the next to last page of the insert. Thats right junkie. That middle finger is for you!!!! By the way I also have one track on Justice. "To Live Is To Die". Ya beta check ya self befor ya step to me. Now BOW TO LEPER MESSIAH and appologize.
Burton's been hanging with Dimebag.
Yeah, I can't tell the difference between them now!
Cliff was funny at 11:05 with his prospective blog topics. By 11:24 he was beginning to show signs of strain. By 12:37 he had definitely slipped a cog. Then, nothing today. We can only hope he didn't get caught in a machine at work.
I think this is a clear example of what can happen to the human mind if exposed to a steady diet of hard rock music, especially if the artists are dead...
Go on and ring my neck
like when a rag gets wet
a little discipline
for my pet genius
my head is like lettuce
go on dig your thumbs in
may be a midlife crisis.
Sorry to disappoint but those were actually on different days. You see a.m. is in the morning and p.m. is after noon.
You silly goose.
