Searching for perfection, Part 2!Posted Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 9:26 AM
Front row: Erica, Lindsey and Lauren W. Back row: Alyssa, Brooke, Samantha, Lauren D, Taylor and Morgan......... Congratulations on your victory!
We all know that it is not always about being perfect or having the perfect season so I would like to congratulate the Allied Waste 13-17 year old girls softball team on earning their first win of the season Monday night (the last day of the season!) This team of girls were one of the youngest teams in the league and had very little softball experience prior to this summer but THEY chose to play together. It wasn't always pretty but for the most part, they kept smiling and having fun. This team had lost every game going into the last day of the season by at least the 15-run mercy-rule and still held their heads high. You girls ROCK!!!!! This goes to show you that hard work does pay off! Thanks Bob for doing this for the girls. Great job girls.
Bobby
Good job girls...this is what it's all about! Having fun, and learning something new, are the two best gifts you can get out of playing any sport!
Oh, boy, maybe this blog'll be a nice, calm one!
I would bet Bon Scott and the other deceased Metal fanatics will like this one much more.....This is more about the spirit which these age groups can grow from and learn from. I would NOT be against reporting on a 13 + team going undefeated like I was against the little terds team. Again.....and don't infer it please...NOTHING against the little rugrats, but at 5-6 the score and W or Losing doesn't mean much......
Girls....way to keep working.....and you sure look like you are having fun!!!!!!!! Goat, Dolphin....how was that?
Way to keep working....and you sure look like you are having fun!!!!! What a load. It's about winning. Unless youre on some CUTMART B TEAM.
I thought they closed the CutMart.
IGA..CUTMART Whats the difference? If you win every game that makes you a winner. Win one and you just might be the worst team in the league. If that is fun then I want no part of it.
Green Team Rules!!
They closed CutMart temporarily to get the smell out and fix the coffee machines. Coffee Machines fixed, smell still there.
Oh, my, what good boys you're being! I am so impressed! Still, I wonder what's gonna happen to you when the moms catch you calling their kids "terds"?? Hehe. Just can't be totally good, can'ya?
Terds is much better than the alternatives. IF this team didn't finished LAST, who the heck did and how bad were they?
Just a few thoughts, girls you did a good job this year I'm so proud of you. As for Cliff Burton you were probablly never good enough to make ANY B TEAM in your life. And you shannonhoon I'm sorry that you lost your job at the local cut-mart, I hope you get that smell thing under control. These girls were playing against girls that were 3,4,and 5 years older and more experienced than they were, so this was no small acomplishment for them. Keep up the hard work and let's get another win in the tourney. Thanks Bobby for all you done this year.
Keep up the blogs, Bobby. At least you get Cliff Burton, BonScott and Shannonhoon's blood pressure pumping. That alone is worth it.
Love it, dexter_dad. Good job, girls.
Why would anyone play a game if it wasn't fun? I have to do lots of things every day that aren't fun. My job isn't fun, but at least I get paid for it. I refuse to do something for fun that I don't enjoy. Of course playing softball is about more than winning. Winning is the icing.
Oh, ducky, you are so right! When we grow up, we have to do so many things that are not FUN!! These kids should just enjoy getting together and working as a team - out in the sunshine and the fresh air - while their bodies are still strong enough to do it!
I can't speak for my fellow dead rockers, but my blood pressure is actually quite good. But thanks for the concern. I give kudos to the girls. It is definitely tougher to play against older competition, especially at that age.
You mean there are 22 year olds in the league? That is wack. BTW: BP is good....Cholesterol..good and bad...checks fine. A little family history of Colon Cancer on the watch....and never worked at CutMart. Bought plenty of suicide solution there, however. Cliff I know never even played sports.....started playing bass at the age of 13 and joined Metallica by age 16. The rest is history. Layne Staley was an athlete, so he may have a say in this matter.
Quack Quack
Yeah, I knew you couldn't be good very long...
So the headbangers were classmates in the school of hard knocks, eh? And stars, at that. We're so honored to be gettin' insulted by someone famous...
I'll start with Ducky Berra's quote that, 'I refuse to do something for fun that I don't enjoy.' And just when we thought he was done, 'Winning is the icing.' Somebody get this guy his own column...PLEASE.
This is a great achievement...WAY TO GO GIRLS! AND if they keep working hard and doing well, one day they'll have a chance to be proud Olympians. That'll be the cherry on top of that icing Ducky was talking about...
LS, I ordinarily LOVE sarcasm...but only when it seems to have some sort of direction. Let's see...are we poking fun at the girls..the Olympics..confections...or fruit toppings?
Mainly just poking fun at you goat...without you this wouldn't be as much fun!
AND while we are at it, my grandparents own Cut mart, and I don't appreciate you disrespecting it like that. It smells fine in there most days - they own a goat or two so sometimes it gets a little gamey, but that is part of the ambiance.
Additionally, dexter_dad, I know for a fact that Cliff played on some pretty salty Dairy House Teams and he could beat girls that were three years younger than him any day of the week.
If this was a story about perfection then why was it not about the team with no wins. A perfect losing season!! As for dexter dad..I was on the A team with Murdock and Face.
Have to admit, my Big Star tee ball team was dang good. Then it was on to the pitching machine and the mediocrity of the Astro Bowl seasons. Little League was more of the same, but our Orange and Black Powell Supply uni's kicked. We did scrimmage a softball team that summer and we won 14-2. They all threw like girls and one of them tried to tackle me.
GL - here's your map:
Ducky's unintentional remarks are hilarious and I would enjoy hearing more. And it wouldn't be over until it is over. These girls did a good job. Softball was cut out of the Olympics.
Try to keep up!!!
That has to be some kind of Title 9 infringement. When did this happen staley? Does Hillary know this. I smell a lawsuit.
Title 9 doesn't apply to the world, Bon. You should know this being from England. U.S.A. was beating everyone so badly, they canned it as an Olympic event. The saddest part is we don't get to see Jenny Finch and that is just WRONG.
Dimebag, I don't even know where the Cut-Mart IS, so I have no idea how it smells or doesn't smell. Is that the one at the bottom of the hill?
Your buddy hoon was responsible for that criticism of your grandparents' beloved store. Sure... Funny how a softball blog turns into a critique of local quickie shops, isn't it?
You guys are staying up way too late. Bet you look like stale oatmeal right now...
Thanks for the set up goat - speaking of oatmeal...
I'm steppin' tall, y'all, and just like Humpty Dumpty you're gonna fall when the stereos pump me. I like to rhyme, I like my beats funky, I'm spunky. I like my OATMEAL lumpy. I'm sick wit dis, straight gangsta mack but sometimes I get ridiculous I'll eat up all your crackers and your licorice hey yo fat girl, c'mere--are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat. Look at me, I'm skinny
It never stopped me from gettin' busy...
good morning!
Dimebag just did an 11 cent bag.
Good AM Darrell
"my nose is big, big like a pickle and I'm still gettin' paid". Man, I have to stay off that stuff from Bloomfield.
Glad to participate in the fun BG.
Well, now I've heard it all. Dead rocker songs about oatmeal and pickles?? No wonder you guys like that music. Can we assume that the song writers were stoned when they composed these literary masterpieces?? What next, Malto-meal?
Talk about jumping to conclusions and disrespecting. The Oatmeal and Pickles was in a rap Goat....any assumptions about he writers of that one. Please disrespect the black men who penned that one.
Who cares about oatmeal and pickles? I kind of liked Sippin' on Gin and Juice.
