What was the Spanish Olympic basketball team thinking?
Spain's Olympic basketball teams have risked upsetting their Chinese hosts by posing for a pre-Games advertisement making slit-eyed gestures. The ad for a courier company, which is an official sponsor of the Spanish Basketball Federation, occupied a full page in the sports daily Marca, the country's best-selling newspaper. The ad features a large photograph of the basketball team posing in full Olympic kit on a basketball court decorated with a picture of a Chinese dragon. Every single player appears to be pulling back the skin on either side of their eyes. Thank God it is not an American team! Will anything become of this incident? Your thoughts? Nope. My thoughts immediately turn to that dang swimmer kid who is killing all competitors and making the Olympic games exciting for all ages to watch. Oh, and my thoughts also turn to some other stuff too I can't type about.
The Spanish must be as rude as the French.
the goat fights fire with fire...one race card laid is one race card played. But since the French are considered white, no harm done I guess.
Maybe the Spanish just have a weird sense of humor. Humor is tricky. It can be so easily misconstrued. I've never been to Spain, so I have no first-hand knowledge.
Wish I could have stayed up late enough to watch the women's gymnastics. I thought the Russians were ahead when I went to bed. Ah, Bela Karolyi - what a show!
Considering the way the Chinese prepare their gymnasts, it's a wonder ANYONE can compete with them! When there's no outside accountability for a coaching team, and they have the government breathing down their necks with a win-at-any-cost mentality, it makes no difference to them if they wreck a few little kids in the process. ("Oh, phooey, we broke this one! Let's get another one off the bench!")

The Olympic Games is an international multi-sport event. The original Olympic Games (Greek: Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες; [Olympiakoi Agones] (help·info)) were first recorded in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece, and were celebrated until AD 393. Evangelos Zappas sponsored the first modern international Olympic Games in 1859. He paid for the refurbishment of the Panathenian Stadium for Olympic Games held there in 1870 and 1875. The IOC has become the heart of the "Olympic Movement," a conglomeration of sporting federations that are involved in the organization of the Games. As the Olympic Movement has grown so have the profile and complexity of the Games. Participation in the Games has increased to the point that nearly every nation on earth is represented. With the proliferation of satellite communications, the internet, and the continuing trend towards globalization, the Olympics are consistently gaining supporters. This growth has created numerous challenges, including political boycotts, the use of performance enhancing medications, bribery of officials, and terrorism.
Despite these challenges the Olympics have continued to thrive and flourish. Each successive Games attempts to add more events in order to keep up with the ever-evolving advance of athletic expression around the world. The current games in Beijing comprise of 302 events in 28 sports. The most recent Winter Olympics in 2006 featured 84 events in 7 sports. While the Olympic Games do continue to evolve, they also encompass many rituals that were established during their infancy in the late 19th and early 20th century. Most of these traditions are on display during the Opening and Closing ceremonies, and the medal presentations. For its part, the Olympic Movement has made considerable progress in fostering participation among as many nations as wish to compete, as well as focusing on the Olympic motto: Citius Altius Fortius - Faster, Higher, Stronger.

Never claimed to know anything about coaching. If I wanted to help in this area, I would spend time in the Advance gym hanging with Coach Doudy. Hawaii 5 O 5: Pay attention to the GOAT's last past and move on.
I heard Coach Doudy was a hell of a coach. Didn't they change their mascot in Advance to Black Bears?

Coach Doudy is former 2A Coach of the Year back when he was an assistant at Puxico. Amazing basketball mind. After the bear was spotted in Advance, they have decided to go with the change. Doudy pushed for it and got what he wanted as a new coach. Advance Black Bears sounds pretty **** good to me.
Guess I have to take that back: Hoon just THINKS he's always right! You can never have too much orange.

seriously...quit getting pulled into hoon and bon's act. Those guys just pretend to be stupid. Let me provide a breakdown: both were all state basketball players and one coached a baseball team who won state as well. doudy is a punk, but his wife is way cool junior. Now you know.

5on5, I'm glad you didn't have to punch your dad. That's never a good thing. Where did you play b-ball? Did you play in southeast Missouri? I'm originally from California but have ties to the bootheel.
Didn't play...just yells at TV's. Check out BG's other blog and watch 5 on 5 start spewing about how great Roy Williams is now that I have explained several weaknesses (in my opinion) which to me have been obvious watching NC games since Tyler has been there.
Still waiting for 5 on 5 to tell us what team he played on and for what coaches.

Shoot, I wish I could coach like Joshe Doubdy. I mean, I saw a game once last year where he had those Puckerhoe Injuns running and gunning and chirping throughout the WHOLE gym, all the while having a Charlie Chaplin-looking coaches vest on with his best Winner's Choice black suede shoes on.

I'm not a big Doors fan but I wouldn't say Morrison sucks. Comparing "Light my Fire" and "Metal Health" are like comparing apples to oranges.... they are both great tasting and good for the soul but they look different on the outside.... although the orange will 'roll' a little better than the apple will!
