My wife does love me!

Funny story.... if you know my wife, Kristie, very well, then you know that she has a very big heart. She has been telling me for about a year that she would get a basketball autographed by Tyler Hansbrough for my collection.... that day was last Thursday. As Kristie was driving through the Valley Plaza Shopping Mall in Poplar Bluff she spotted a 'giant' standing outside Radio Shack wearing Tar Heel blue shorts. She knew who it was immediately and seized the opportunity! She slammed on the breaks and parked illegally, but there was no way she was going to let this chance pass. She then ran up to Tyler calling his name just to make sure it was indeed him. He acknowledged her as she explained to him that I was a huge fan and how she has been forced to watch every North Carolina game on television over the past three years! By the way, we do have more than one television set in our house! She asked Tyler if he would sign a basketball for me if she ran into Hibbett's Sports (two stores down the strip coincidently!) He politely told her that he needed to go into Radio Shack and she could catch up with him in there. This is where my wife's paranoia kicked in! She was determined not to let this opportunity pass. She would not let him get away without holding true to his word. She set off down the sidewalk running as fast as she could. Keep in mind that she is wearing high heels! She flew into the sporting goods store and frantically found a really nice Nike basketball. Uh oh.... there are people checking out. What to do, what to do? Reaching panic mode, she couldn't contain herself anymore. She threw her purse up on the counter explaining that she had to go get Tyler Hansbrough's autograph. She would be back to pay for the ball and retrieve her purse momentarily. Fortunately the lady covering the counter didn't call the police and decided to use this situation to her advantage also. She tossed Kristie a second basketball to get autographed for her and a sharpie (gotta have something to sign the balls with) as Kristie was darting out the door. Perfect timing! Tyler was just coming out of Radio Shack as Kristie caught up to him. She once again explained to him that she really wasn't a phsyco chick and that this really was for her husband. He was very polite and seemed to enjoy that someone asked for his autograph. Kristie did return to Hibbett's to pay for the ball and retrieve her purse. Mission accomplished! That's the greatest gift I have ever been given and I will always cherish it! My wife really does love me! Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Classic Bobby...truly classic. I LOVE it!
Congratulations on your autographed basketball AND your devoted wife, Bobby! You'll be the envy of all the guys on the block!
NICE!!!!!!!! Not surprised at all knowing Kristie! You did good BG!
Hopefully Tyler and the boys can overcome some of the most overhyped coaching in the business. Offense...nope, just run down and throw it up.
Feed the post....nope, take whatever shot you want even though you shoot a horrible % and hopefully Tyler will go get it.
Behind at the end of a game.....just PANIC!
Defense....hahahahahahahahahaha
Defending a pick and roll.....hahahahahahahaha
Containing the ball....hahahahahahaha
As much talent as they have, it will take alot to make it any further in the tourney without a more prepared team on both ends of the floor. If you ever get a chance, watch Roy's championship team at Carolina with May and Co. They played so much more disciplined on both ends.....they also weren't Roy's team.
As big of a fan as I am, I have to agree with you shannonhoon. There seems to be a lot of 'fundamental' areas that Coach Williams doesn't emphasize enough. Maybe after getting so close to the grand prize last year, the guys will be more focused come tourney time.
I'm really glad Tyler decided to stay in school for his last year of elegibility. College ball is so much more fun to watch than the NBA (Nuttin But Attitude).
Kristie did get caught up in the moment.... she said she felt like a teenage girl at a Bon Jovi concert in the 80's!
Raymond Felton, Rashad McCants and Sean May were more disciplined?????? Hoon you had better hope that all the other posters on here know as little as you do about basketball. Otherwise your gonna end up talking to yourself.
And you are right. They were not his kids. They were Bill Guthridge's by way of Matt Doherty. By the time Roy got them they had to be rehabilitated from the scarring of Doherty. They went from 8-20 the year before he got there to national champs.
I'm just wondering.....Do you make such absurd statements to get a rise out of people or do you really believe what you say when it comes to basketball?
I still believe Coach Williams could do better by emphasizing certain fundamentals. He is definately a 'players' coach. Everyone wants to play for him. A big reason why his teams are always so talented.
They have a couple of big guys coming in this year that should compliment Tyler a whole lot more than Steveson and Thompson did last year.
5 is going to have a knee jerk reaction to anything I type......wish I could have a cup of coffee with him.
IF 5 thinks Carolina defends well and is disciplined on offense, this is proof that he is just looking for an argument. I have been to 3 of Tyler's games...one at NC STATE (upset loss), and two at Chapel Hill...Maryland (upset loss last year where NC was killed by a simple pick and roll all night, no adjustments and the winning bucket was scored due to horrible defense of it) and Maryland (his freshman year which was a nice win. Meeting Coach Williams and getting to go into the locker room was a thrill.....but Roy's awwwwwww shucks persona is a bit phony for me...NOT MUCH country about him. Looking forward to seeing Duke/Carolina this year.
And yes....if you will watch any tape at all you will see Felton, McCants and May run a much more disciplined offense, feeding the post and working the ball inside through May on a regular basis. Tyler rarely gets a post feed and if he does get one, it is usually with his back about 10-12 feet from the rim.
Out of Carolina's 4-5 last possession games last year....Tyler was given the ball 0 times....0. He hit his game winning jumper on the baseline by chasing it down (about 30 feet) and getting to a ball that almost NO other player in the country would have. Ellington happened to come through against Clemson and hit a 30 footer (great look?).
You may disagree with me or just want to stir some poo poo, but I assure you I know at least a little bit about the topic at hand and have been fortunate enough to talk about the subject with many more folks besides myself. I would be curious 5, how many coaching clinics you have been to and who your top basketball minds are, yourself not included.
So they have lost 2 out of the 3 games you've been to? SH, please stay away from the State of North Carolina when it is time to play Duke! haha.
I recall those two losses. Some simple adjustments would have changed those outcomes. I think (even though Kansas was smoking hot last year) some more disciplined coaching would not have let the Jayhawks build up that 95 (or whatever it was) point lead in the first half of the semifinal game. NC outplayed Kansas after that but the game was already over at halftime.
I'm not totally dissing Roy Williams. I have a lot of respect for what the man has done including graduation numbers but I do believe he could get more out of his teams.
Two National Championships are great but how many should he have won? ESPN experts says several!
Same here....not saying he is worthless or NO good....I AM saying he is overhyped and over rated like SO many coaches today. They still need players and talent to win. Roy is in a situation now and has been for several years where he has so much talent, he has to find a way to keep them all happy (my opinion, which 5 will automatically hate). In my eyes, this has been by allowing anyone to shoot the ball at anytime no matter how open or how shitty or how dumb of a shot it happens to be. I also can't remember the last time Roy got someone, including Tyler, out of a game and chewed on them individually. It doesn't happen. But, he is one heck of a recruiter and a quality guy and will always win 20 at NC.....often 30, and that IS saying quite alot.
Good points.
Preach it hoon, I love it. I am one of the biggest UNC fans around, and that goes back before Jordan, but I agree with you about Coach Williams. I think he has let it get a little "loose" in the last couple of years which has ultimately hurt them in the tourney. One of the biggest things that sticks out to me that differentiates Coach Williams from Coach Smith is interior passing. Dean Smith was the master of interior passing, especially from post to post. Roy's teams do not do that. If Coach Williams teams did that as well as Coach Smith's, Tyler would dominate more than he already does. I still say they will be there come April. Go Heels!!
Sorry. I just can't agree with very much of what any of you say that's negative about Roy Williams. Don't think there is something wrong with a statement when you say that a man has won 2 national titles........but he should have won several more??? There is such parity in NCAA basketball today. Can't buy that his teams have underachieved at all. Don't get me wrong. I HATE the Kansas Jayhawks and many say he should have won a title or two there. He can flat out caoch and in a tournament that involves 64 teams there are way too many more variables that come into play to pin losses in key games on the things some of you are pinning them on.
Greer made a good point about last years team. If you look at their roster he got a whole lot out of a team that was very good, but not definitively the best in the country. I love Tyler H. He has put SEMO on the map and he has, just and AWESOME work ethic. But he did not have alot of help. I also would contend that the reason he did not get the ball on the block sometimes is because he was being double and triple teamed. Sure he could get the ball more but the game has changed and, right or wrong the emphasis is in come cases on the 3. Especially when you can fill it up. That being said you gotta have a great big man to win it all more often than not.
The team with McCants, Felton and May was just better than last years team. They had a great core to complement those players. But they played a very helter skelter style which was condusive to their success. My point is Roy's team last year being wild and undisciplined had more to do with the way the game unfolded than the emphasis that Roy Williams does/or does not put on fundamentals....
Been to a few clinics. Hubie Brown is by far the greatest basketball mind that I have had the pleasure of hearing speak. Dean Smith, Nolan Richardson, Billy Donovan, and Jim Boeheim are some others that stand out.
Not bad 5.....May and Co. did play up and down...no doubt.....but they also fed the post 10 times better than any team at NC since. Wrong about saying a game dictates whether or not you feed a post. Nope. You pound it in there, not forcing it, but you feed the post. Double and Triple teams sometimes will be a factor, but shouldn't stop the ball from going to Hansbrough. Jacking up three's when you are a below average shooter is ridiculous and that is what NC does....they jack it up...green lights galore. NC has NO one that can fill it up consistently....consistently being they key word. Streak shooters...hell yes. Good/Great shooters....nope.
Roy had plenty of talent to win........and did much of the time. Saying he had less talent to me is just ONE MORE reason you control the game, or try to as a coach. And at LEAST limit shots from everyone on the floor but your All American.
Clinics...you can do better than that. Smith...awesome. Richardson....have not seen but not a fan for many reasons. Donovan...arrogant and preached about a trapping, swarming press they rarely used to win it all and NEVER used when it mattered to win it all. Boeheim...class act, but in know way would I consider him a great clinician unless you were into solely using a 2-3 and basically scrimmaging in practice, which is what he admitted to doing in order to recruit those types of players.....respect the hell out of it and it works for him, just wouldn't call him a great clinician, although he sure has many many many variations of a 2-3 zone which interest me.
Don Meyer.......BEST.....
Hubie Brown....best situations coach ever.
Bruce Weber incredible Blue Collar stuff, great drills which simulated game situations
Gene Bess...horrible speaker, but incredible 3+hour practices.
Quinn Snider's first year at MU...awesome, before he started snorting the shit and getting lost in his own hype running a country club atmosphere.
Tubby Smith....one of the top3 or 4
Dean Smith...with you there.
Bob Knight.......amazing...funny, but still informative as hell sort of Charlie Spoonhour like.
John Wooden.....no words to describe it. Wrote him a thank you once after hearing/seeing him....back in the day, he would respond to any and all mail. I have his response framed on my wall. Tied for 1 with Don Meyer, but might get the nod due to obvious reasons.
Worst ever.....
Bob Huggins
Donovan close
Snider in his last 3-4 years running the Club MU
Been out of the business for about 14 years now.....don't miss it due to all the other crap you put up with. Not worth the $ they pay.
Pretty good conversation here....no name calling and hopefully your insults can at least be tamed.
5 foot 5.
Thought of some more questions for our discussion.....healthy discussion I might add. We disagree in our opinions that NC is one of the worst defensive teams fundamentally who competes at their level. Anyway.....
1. How would you defend the pick and roll if you were Coach Roy
and
2. What 2 or 3 defensive drills would be staples for your Tarheels to improve day in and day out defensively and get you , Coach Roy, another ring.
Donovan gives great tips and drills on how to improve one's game individually. I like him.
I could make the same arguement about Bruce Weber that you make about Roy Williams.
I'm not smart enough to defend the pick and roll on any level... Play match-up zone..
The match-up zone, in my opinion, is one of the worst defenses in basketball and you can still pick-n-roll out of it. Boehiem and John Chaney run great zone defenses because they have/had the athletes to do it. The match-up is worthless in high school.
Coach Wade was way better. Think of the pressure of coaching white midgets against Charleston. There's no defense in the playbook for that...
Layne.....You probably still have your Freshman games on video and watch them.
5....you have went from insulting my bb IQ in every comment you type to not responding ANYthing in this FINALLY worthwhile conversation. You even say YOU aren't smart enough, which is a more polite description than I have gotten on the last several posts.
I am assuming you are saying that Weber's trip to the Final Four was with another's guys.....agree. BUT...Weber teaches unbelievably tough man to man defense, mixing in zone and his teams seem to KNOW what a good shot looks like and play a bit up tempo, but rather patient and disciplined most of the time.
I would be interested in why you would say play the matchup? This tells me you are likely a Hale/Sitze disciple or follower and while Coach Hale finally won one with the matchup...he needed a weak 4A path to Columbia and a great deal of talent to do it. Hale is a genius at teaching the matchup....always has been, but that doesn't mean it is the best defense or most solid. It basically is great for teams that want to run around, scramble, score a ton of points, beat weaker opponents by 50, and get beat by intense, hard nosed, solid teams....ie: New Madrid County Central. One of the dumbest things I have ever seen is Dexter's guards chasing Dereke Tipler around 40 feet from the rim in a matchup zone, allowing him to penetrate at will and keeping those great and fun to watch Bearcat teams from even winning a District. If you would have asked Lennies what defense he HOPED Dexter played....he would have said...."please Lord, let them play their matchup...let them try to press us....let them guard us away from the bucket.....let them not work on blocking out one time.....and let them try to outscore us." It all happened just that way.......
Hopefully you will have more time to respond later on with some defensive ideas I asked about and an explanation of why you feel the matchup is so great. Still a good BB conversation.....I am starting to miss it a bit after all this time talking all these X's nad O's the way we are......but I sure like my couch!
I wish I had the footage b/c we did beat Charleston with Wade at the helm. Nobody over 6 foot tall on the team...I'm starting to sound like 72Bearchat now.
Hoon...simmer down now. 5 will respond once he consults with Hale for a proper response. You're hitting close to home.
Bon-the match up is not worthless at any level. Maybe you say that based on observations but you need to remember it takes a while to learn how to play it. Also, you have probably seen just as many occasions where a team was playing man or some other type of zone that appeared to be worthless. There are also different variations of it as well. You can pick and roll any defense that does not defend if well. Has nothing to do with the type of defense you play.
I don't care if this year's path to the Class 4 final four was "weak" or not. A state title is a state title. I would disagree that St. Charles West was a "weak" opponent. They had threee of the best guards in the state. You talk about not being able to contain Tipler. ND won this years state title because they absolutely shut down 3 of the best guards in the state and Soderberg is a better player than Tipler was. You can say Soderberg was hurt all you want. I was at the game and Soderberg was healthy when the ball was in his hands. As good as Dexter was then they lost to NMCC because NMCC was just better. Playing man or zone would not have changed that. Using any defense that may have been played in that game as the reason why they lost is just an excuse in my opinion.
I don't think one defense is any more solid than the other necessarily. But the match up allows you to compete with team that are more talented. It keeps your big men around the basket so they can rebound instead of being out 20 feet away from the basket guarding a man. Again, this is important if you are coaching the team that is less talented. It's not that much different from a man in many aspects. You have to be really smart, and you really have to be able to close-out well.
Even this years Notre Dame team was just average in talent after you take away Ryan Willen. I will agree with you that ND's sectional and quarterfinal opponents were weak, but they beat two great teams to win it all. They almost won it last year playing a team that was comparable to charleston except you would need to add 3 inches and 15 pounds to every kid.
wow...must be on speed dial.
Layne-You are exactly right. It does his close to home. And that is something that I'm very proud of. But I doubt i'm who you think I am. I'm not a "blood" relative although he is like a father to me.
I knew 5on5 had to be tied in with Coach Hale somehow. I don't know of anyone else in this part of the state that plays the match-up. Call me bull headed or old fashion, but I believe a good, hard-nosed man-to-man is the only way to go. That's all we played in high school and college and it worked out pretty well. It also worked out pretty good for Bob Knight. I like this conversation. I'll be back in a bit.
Every Coach to follow Hale uses his matchup...almost exclusively.
Also, MM fundamentals are key to All defenses and the use of a zone can be used to give a particular group a better chance of success against certain opponents. It is surprising to me that Roy (not harping, but another example) absolutely refused last year to play any zone when his team was so horrible playing pressure MM. I think some teams are suited for one, the other, and most can and should utilize both.
Anxious to hear more from you Bon and will be looking to hear from 5 on this stuff.....good talk.
Hoon, I agree and disagree with you. You are right that teams should try to utilize more than one defense. But more times than not, especially in high school, teams cannot play a good zone or man-to-man for that matter. Gimmick defenses are for teams with no discipline or fundamentals on defense.
I absolutely disagree with that Bon. There have been some really good teams that have had tremendous success trapping/running and jumping.
Also if you can't play man or zone your not going to play gimmick either. Teams that have great depth can often times better utilize that depth by making the game a full court game by trapping and running and jumping whether its man or zone.
5on5, I don't care what you think, but there are only a handful of teams that play solid, fundamental defense in southeast Missouri. Probably the whole state for that matter. Teams that trap by running and jumping all over the court are going to get beat by a discipline team the majority of the time. I know you say you learned a lot from Coach Hale, but his match-up zone and full court press could not beat fundamental teams with equal talent. And that's a fact. The teams he had at Bernie in the late 80s and early 90s were his best teams he had and he could not beat larger schools or teams with equal talent. I witnessed it time and time again. He did beat Dexter on a few occasions during that time, but it was not by pressing and trapping the ball. Man-to-man wins more titles than not.
5 .....you exactly Wrong when saying a Matchup gives a team with less talent a chance.....The #1 example I can think of would be Dexter's total inialation/embarassment/laugher at the hands of Vashon. They showed that they had NO business being there, took advantage of a joke of a path to get there, and pressed and chased a bunch of athletes around so that the rest of us could see a dunkfest. I don't know of many that would step on the court with that VAshon team and NOT try to dictate tempo. Granted, you are likely looking at a 20-30 point loss....but that would have to be easier to take than a 50 point back board shaking joke of a game.
Not arguing much anymore.....got told I knew nothing and I would end up talking to myself. Now I get nothing but general comments on the matchup, which is ALL you know about the game and I am still waiting for 2-3 defensive drills that you feel Roy Williams (name that started this all) could use to improve his team. You admitted you know nothing about defending a pick and roll, so give the defense chalk talk a try.
This is still one of the better discussions found on ANY blog.....now lets get into some X's and O's
Bon-It's very interesting that you bring up those Bernie teams of the 80's and early 90's. I did witness 99% of those games. I can, with 100% certaintly tellyou that you are totally wrong on that subject. One of the biggest wins in the history Bernie basketball came in 1989 in the state quarterfinal against Wellston. Wellston was the defending state champ and had a front line that went 6-4, 6-5, and 6-9. This team was certainly much more talented than Bernie. Also only 2 of those teams that he had were really what you would term great teams. His team in 89 that finished 2nd in the state.(I'm sure they lost the state title because of the match-up) and his team in 1993. They were also pretty good in 87-88. But the other 8 years they were fairly average in the talent department. Yet they still won 20 or more games every year. In the eleven years that he was at Bernie they beat Dexter more often than not. They beat Sikeston 2 out of the 4 years they played. They only "bigger" school that they really struggled with was Malden. But Malden was very good from 85-91. LOTS of people lost to them. So you assessment of those team losing to teams of equal talent/larger schools is WAY off base. If you'd like I'd be happy to break it down year by year. And yes they beat many of these teams by pressing and trapping. But if they did not by pressing and trapping then they must have played okay in the half court? I'd be curious to here about some specific instances when what you claim took place.....took place. I'm sure I can recall anything you might need to know.
Man to man is great and yes it wins more titles. I never said it did not.
Hoon i have already gave you one example(see above) of the a game where the match up gave a lesser opponent the chance to compete and win. YOu actually gave a GREAT example of a team that used the match up to its advantage. That dexter team of 04 was not real talented, yet they finished 4th in the state. Sitze done a great job with that group and yes the match up allowed them to compete with better teams. Sure they got pounded by Vashon and Ozark. That Dexter team was not going to win that game no matter what they did. But they got there. Whether its a joke or not. Remember they upset a Desoto team let by 6-8 Tony Boyle who was a great player at SIU. There are a million examples I could give and there are a million example you could give. Certain parts of you post are valid and certain parts of mine are valid.
I'm not conerned with X's and O's. Boring and in some cases overrated. I'm also not conerened about how Roy Williams can better defend the pick n roll.
Nothing but general comments about the match-up? Tell you what. Since you get so SPECIFIC why don't you just ask me anything you want about that topic and we will just see if I can give you some specific answers? I'll be waiting...
It's been great reading these posts...lots of good debate and examples to back up the points raised. But I don't think you can always be right or wrong on how you would match up with your opponent. Way too many variables involved.
5 - good to know you're close w/ Hale...he was a tremendous coach and his teams were always fun to play against and watch. I was at that Wellston game...one of the best I witnessed growing up.
And the challenge is on...bring it Hoon.
Well 5on5, now it's pretty clear where you grew up and where you played high school b-ball. Thanks for the history lesson, but I witnessed most of that so you could have saved on typing. You will never convince me that a match-up zone is better than a man-to-man. When Coach Hale got hired at Dexter, I knew that defense would not win. And I was right, they never got out of Districts. I also might need to look up the definition of great, because the Bernie team of 1993 was far from it. They might have been good, but they weren't near as good as the '89 team or a couple of the teams after that.
Maybe 5 is that FAT guy who used to dress up and act stupid at games? Nice to know I have went from talking to myself and knowing nothing to coming up with valid points. Not surprising you don't want to get specific about anything BUT the matchup.
Simply wrong about a less talented team running around chasing and speeding up tempo on a team with more talent and having a better chance to win.
X's and O's are BORING? Shouldn't be for someone who knows so much.
Didn't need to hear a history of Mule Basketball....typical 20 win seasons over a good deal of 1A and 2A teams. There are examples of that all over the area now, which if LOADED with bad to mediocre teams. Clarkton, Campbell, Bernie, and others all enjoy racking up W's while scheduling few, if any, big schools. I know you will give me that one or two teams to refute that, but come on.
The fact that you feel Sitze is a great coach and did a great job is enough for me. And thinking DeSoto had or has had a great team is hilarious too. Maybe the best example of playing NO BODY all year and taking a beating from anyone coming out of our area. Dexter's '04 team was weak and enjoyed a tip toe through horrible 4A talent. Then went up to State, played exactly as they had done against SCC teams, and didn't just lose......they got embarassed. Matchup zone is not a BAD defense.....but it is a weaker defense against teams with more talent.....ask anyone outside of your Blue circle, which now has shades of Red in it, and you will find that to be true.
Layne-You are right. Their is no right or wrong defense. Just how you play it that counts.
Bon-I thought you might back off after I gave a few examples. You have your opinion but that does not matter to me. My opinion on this is accurate as I witnessed all of this first hand. As far as the opinion of which of his teams were better. I go on his opinion and the 89 and 93 team he always felt were his best. In 89 they finished 28-4, in 93 they finished 27-2. As far as the schedule goes your skewed in your logic. as school that had 140 students at that time played their share of bigger schools:Malden, Dexter, Twin Rivers, Dexter, always did well in the christmas tourny and pretty much dominated the county tourny during that stretch.
Hoon-the fact that you believe Sitze was not a great coach is enough for me. I see no reason to counter that which is written by a moron who does not recognize good coaching when he see's it. The effects of what people did to him will be felt for a while. Good Luck!!!
Now I am back to a moron. Stop whining about reverting to name calling and then doing so......
You offered NO specifics on basketball other than anything that came from Bernie when you played and/or watched. You think Carolina plays great defense and is disciplined on offense, you think playing uptempo gives lesser talent a chance to outscore opponents/win, you think Sitze was a great coach, you think Twin Rivers is considered a large school, and you think Dexter counts as playing two large schools.
Get back to me when you have some defensive drills to discuss......and in defending a pick n roll.
There are many options: Carolina does a horrible job of hedging and recovering. Hansbrough often lunged/leaped/jumped 10-12 feet out away from HIS man giving him NO chance of recovering. Amazing it seemed he was never taught to show himself and force the ball away from the basket, while giving himself a fair chance at recovering to his man who was always diving to the rim. This MUST be aided by a solid help defense and Carolina was weak in that area also. Another option would be to switch the ball screen...this would be the option your Mules teams used since the matchup is basically a switching MM defense. While at times effective, switching also leads to mismatches when you are talking bigs/littles switching. Not a fan a feel it is the weaker of the options but makes a ton of sense if it is a guard/guard ball screen, again...unless one of the defenders is much stronger than another and/or needs to stick with another team's best player. I have NO idea why guard/guard ball screens would be set, other than it is an example of what little players know and are taught. It is one of the most common things you see out of bad players. Pass to another guard and follow your pass because you don't know and haven't been taught to do anything else. Another option with the pick and roll would be to trap it. An automatic trap on a ball screen can be effective, chaotic, and is used quite often at the college levels. Bess has always hedged and recovered, but recently has trapped ball screens. I love ball screens...like the charge, it is one of those beautiful fundamentals of the game that have been awesome over time, no matter style, no matter talent level, no matter skill level.
Lets try and get away from discussing Bernie BB.....we all just disagree about the Matchup. None of us feel is it useless and can't be used effectively.....but we all differ in its strength/weaknesses.
Still laugh thinking about Hale and Co. chasing Tipler 35 feet from the rim. They could have guarded Tipler by standing in the PAINT....although he still may have found a way to score.
I'm in agreeance with Layne on this one. Too many variables. Good conversation!
Guess I'm just to GENERAL for a fool who does not recognize good coaching in his own backyard but then pretends like he want's to discuss basketball.
I'm laughing at you and all your cronies sitting up in the stands griping and moaning about coaching, etc......... LOL How many more "bad" coaches you guys gonna run out before you get someone "good"?
And for the record I never said I was from Bernie.
Later Hoon the Goon.......
Hey thanks Greer...btw your story up there was AWESOME! And I hope Tyler remains as level headed as he's proved to be thus far. Flattery is alright as long as you don't inhale!
Hoon and 5 need to settle it on the court. A game to 10 straight up at the old high school. This would be a showdown b/c I think 5 may have a distant relative that played first base for the Yankees. If I'm right, it would be a very interesting match up. If I'm wrong, I still think 5 brings it and I already know Hoon is SOLID except for the airball free throw at Bell City back in the day...Bon please verify.
In our backyard presently...there are a bunch of decent coaches who care about the kids and want what is best for them.....But as far as proven top notch coaches: There is Bidewell.
You didn't have to say you were from Bernie...
You also didn't have to whine about name calling repeatedly and the unload with the names.
We just disagree, no big deal...still a pretty good blog.
Good luck this season.....Bernie looks to have a pretty solid bunch coming up. Lack of defense and discipline will once again be there downfalls when it comes to competing at a high level.
The only team I root for on the hardwood is the yellow and black.
5on5 sounds a lot like the horrible coach at Clarkton a few years ago and then went to Malden. If memory serves me correct, he might have played for the mighty Mules, but I'm not for sure.
Stop bashing all the incredible basketball minds in our own backyard!
Yellow and Black-The Mizzou Tigers!! I know they stink but I can't waiver.
Not I bon. I would not coach for all the god in China..
I think we all root for Mizzou but being a realist Tyler and NC have been a great story to follow as the Yellow and Black have been 'rebuilding'.
5on5 and shannonhoon, what kind of coach is Mike Anderson? He is now starting his 3rd season with Missouri. We all know where we've been. Where are we going with him at the helm?
Bon and Layne, we need to get this exhibition set up! Has to be a neutral site though. No home court advantages.
I'm in....Bernie High School.
My opinion....undecided on Anderson. Supposed NO non sense, but still has had off the court issues. Supposed to be 40 minutes of hell, but even when the Tigers are getting after it, to me it doesn't look like anything more than typical full court pressure with a bit of trapping. I type this realizing they don't have a high level of talent, BUT even so....the "hell" part is still not there, other than what I go through when I watch them play. Still can't resist going to the ILL/MU game in Dec. Just a great atmosphere. Back to your question.....I am labeling him as average right now, with the fair opportunity to go either way. But needs to get it in gear....and find a way to NOT have off the court discipline pop up.
Please consider this is all coming from a moron who knows nothing about basketball and by this time was supposed to be conversing with only ME!
Uh, it's Black and Gold people! What kind of Mizzou fans are you???
Yellow and Black Attack = Stryper
I would go as far as burnt gold or Vegas gold also..........disappointed in you morons who talk to yourselves.....get it right.
That's right layne, I believe 5on5 is full of it. Anyway, Mizzou sucks. The only good things at Mizzou are D-Rowes, CJ's wings, lots of pizza, lots of beer, and the Old Un.
Don't forget The Blue Note Bon. I staggered into a killer Better Than Ezra concert back in '03. The Blue Note ROCKS!!!!
Now we're talking...the Blue Note is a great venue. Saw The Black Crows, Goo Goo Dolls, The Jayhawks, to name a few that come right to mind.
Hoon-Why do you take everything so personally. Half of what I say is taken out of context. You have insulted me time and again. I think it's funny. I think you know what you are talking about. We disagree on some things. But probably not as many as you would think.
Anderson will be fine at Mizzou but he's gonna need more time. This year's recruiting class should be a good indicator. But if you can win at UAB you should win at Mizzou. You have to remember after Quin left everything was FUBAR. I wonder how Steve Moore will impact this year's team. Big body but raw.
I'm anxious to see the impact too. I'm thinking midway through the season he won't be so green.
Does anyone know for sure what Will Bogan is doing?
I did not like it when I heard about Keon Lawrence leaving school. Maybe Marcus Denmon can develop. It's nice that they got a few Missouri kids to stay at home.
Bogan is at Shawnee CC.
Anderson is still unproven and verdict is still out. There have been many coaches do well at mid-majors, make big runs, pull off big upsets in the tourney....we all love those. BUT that does not mean they will see success when they bolt for the big schools and ink the big deals.
5 foot 3.3 Glad I have your vote of confidence now and I don't take anything on here personal....love a good debate or argument from time to time. Mizzou will be very mediocre this year....40 minutes of hell for fans mostly.
Will who? Oh that fat guy who was in a detention center and kicked out of Charleston and then recruited by the almighty Bell City Cubs? Waist of height/size.
And 5 on none....word of advice....don't get around anyone outside your circle of buds and start saying that lesser talent needs to speed up tempo and lengthen the game. This will save you a bit on your cred. as a bball dude.
Bon...you may be right....this guy may be a former Reindeer.
The last time I checked, UAB didn't play in as tough a conference as Missouri. So what Mike Anderson did there doesn't mean it will materialize at Mizzou. One thing is for certain. If his players keep getting into trouble, they had better start winning. More people can tolerate trouble makers on a winning team than they can on a losing team. I say if he doesn't make a push at the conf. tourney or the NCAAs this year, his job is in jeopardy.
Does not matter who I am but it is quite amusing that you care enough to guess. LOL
Lets just put it this way. If you had to figure this out to graduate you'd probably be 60 at the rate your going. Buy hey.....keep trying.....Don't give up....
As for your advice I don't think it's worth much. I'd rather learn from an experienced doer rather than someone who sits back and waxes philosophical while they puff on their pipe.
Eye aye Captain...............tis Kevin DuBrow of the DuBrowians!!!! I have been looking at this "debate" of basketball MINDS for a little bit and have a few comments.
Hoon---You have some valid points. Coach Roy is for sure not one of the best defensive fundamental coaches there is............although as much as I hate to say it, Coach K IS! Carolina will be fine and will go as far as Tyler takes them this year.
Layne--You for sure are reliving some of the old "Bearcat" glory days when you reference to Coach Wade. Geez. LOL!! Got a kick out of that one. Hadn't thought about him in YEARS. Nice guy though. I agree........the Bernie/Welston game in '89 was one of the best H.S. games in the area that I was fortunate to listen too. Just amazing. DOUBT that they won it b/c of the match-up though........probably more like when they DID NOT call A. Beane on the 3 pt. LINE when he tied the game up in the final seconds. They get that right and Bernie is home cracking pecans.
BonScott---You sound very "familiar". You don't rock out as much as my "Riot" but are O.K. to say the least. I agree with some things about your defensive philosophy, but don't agree that Dexter's late 80's/early 90's man to man was even stellar. No need to explain why, is there?LOL
And finally, 5 on 5. It's funny that you chose that name b/c most of the time you guys played more 1 on 1 (or 1 on 3) than anything, in which games took place in the "Bernie Dome/Homer Dome" with the likes of El Capitan MULE blurting out everything EXCEPT anything intelligent. It is funny that you are a Coach Hale mini-me clone. It really is. Everyone knows that Hale got most of his wins by the likes of playing Campbell twice a year, Risco a few times, Cooter, etc.............C'mon now. And the 1993 team being GREAT????? Explain that one!!!
K-DBROW
Kevin:
We have 5 pegged....even know who he is. Just be prepared to be told you know nothing about ball and that the matchup is the greatest thing ever invented. Clarkton, Malden, Bernie....all examples of guys running around chasing and beating weaker opponents or getting beat by teams as good or better in the talent department. Forgot about AB and that shot.....great game/great win and still ONLY a 2A runner-up. Bon is a maniac, and I don't know that he said stellar describing Dexter defense...but if there was one thing Hall Ball involved was fundamental MM defense. Staley went to Zalma and doesn't even know who Wade is.
I know Wade and he loves his wife, just check out the bumper.
And like 5on5 said, it is going to take you a Long time to figure out who he is...I'd just give up and concentrate on the message.
How Long?
Why is it taking everyone so Long to figure out who the cry-baby is that plays one on one all of the time?? Tell me, tell me!!!
Its 5 on 5 DuBrow. Not 1 on 1.
Wasn't there a set of twins that played at Bernie around '92 or '93. From what I remember hearing, they were the only real scorers on the team. It does seem like that team played out of control and a lot of one-on-one.
Hmmmmmmmmmm, by George your on to something there Bon!!! Nice detective work! It seems best I remember there were a couple of little snot-nosed twins that went around terrorizing other area teams, especially when they beat one their junior year by almost 100 points (think it was like 149-65 or something). Man that was IMPRESSIVE!!! Whatever happened to those two peas in a pod???
Keep trying. haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
You guys are still a Long way off.
Yea, sometimes it just takes a Long time to find out what someone is Longing for, you know???? 5 days gone bad is a Long way from being out of the woods though, and I mean a LONG way!!! Maybe Coach Hale will put a spell on all of us and make us play the vaunted match-up zone.
I heard from someone over by so and so's house say that this years Bernie Yules will be one of the most touted groups to come from there in a Long time. Rumor is that they have coaches there that put the "C" in coaching and they WILL get the job done. Period. You know why they will?? "Because Stone-Cold said so!!!"
Bernie is supposed to have some good kids coming up. Will still play weak to mediocre defense and if they continue to moan and groan and whine and play to the crowd and act like prima donas, they will beat Campbell and Gideon and Holcomb and Risco....gosh, do they really play all these cream puffs?....but will come up short when it gets tough. But if it were me and I had a weaker team with less talent, I would want to speed up the game, push the ball, press, take more and quicker shots and keep them tempo UP. I love getting beat by 50 when it could have been kept under 20 (respectible) and I love getting beat by 20-30 when there could have been the slightest chance for an upset.
Bring back Capt. Mule.
Hoon, you left out their biggest competition, Cooter. When you're playing cupcakes like that every year, who wouldn't win 20 games. I think Capt. Mule, blue suspenders and all, would have won 20+ a year if he was coaching. I'll give Coach Hale credit for winning the state title this year, but for all the other talent he has had, what a bunch of underachievers.
Hoon, all the whining and show boating stuff stems from Hale. He was notorious for lack of discipline and running the score up. Hell, look at the way they all played. Every player he had played the same way. They walked, ran, shot, and cried all the same. A bunch of robots.
You are right Bon, can't forget about the Crazy Cooter's!!!!!! Someone said that back when LeBron was going to be a Senior his mom called and wanted to enroll him at Cooter and everything was a done deal.........except............when Cooter faxed their schedule to St. Vincent-St. Mary H.S. in Akron, OH he saw where they had to play the Bernie Yules 4 times a year (and he had only 1 loss in his h.s. career up to this and didn't want 4 in one year) and reconsidered and dropped the transfer immediately. Now, I know that Akron is a Long way from Bernie, but hey, if the King considered the Yules then everyone should.
Look, these are funny rants, but please try not to make them so Long. And where did 5on5 go?
You guys are still a LONG ways off, really.
This brings us to another point. Hale and his disciples and running up the score. I have never witnessed a case where a team should beat another by 50-60-70-80 points. I remember in the day, Bloomfield humiliated Zalma when they were in the Christmas tournament so that one of their players could set a record. No class from top to bottom, but that is on the coach. If you look at some of Bernie and Dexter's scores from Junior High on up...there is NO excuse for the lopsided outcomes. Teaches all kids nothing and the arrogance and ignorance it takes to lead this takes away from anything positive a coach might have to offer.
Sorry mine get so LONG sometimes. After a over a decade of missing out, can't resist talking hoops with myself. You know how us morons are.
Yea, I've heard from some people who know some people that Coach Hale was notorious for running up the score on some of the more poor pitiful teams that they have played during the year. And I also think it filtered down to Sitze when he was running the JH program with the likes of Hyten, Burnett, etc. I heard that one time he had a school down something like 95-5 and was STILL pressing while the whole time their head coach sat up there and just smiled. That's fine and dandy when you can do it against "inferior" competition, but let's see Hale do it to Portageville and NMCC when they knocked off his "golden boys" and sent them to Otter Slough fishing for the rest of their school year!!!
Oh no Hoon, I believed I just Clarked ALL over myself because it's been so LONG since 5 on 5 has had the guts to make his presence known here.
Very glad to hear that you all remember Captian Mule!!!!
Who could forget a loud mouth who never said anything intelligent that looked like Papa Smurf.
Where did our BB genius go? He seems very distant to me.....I mean, he seems a LONG ways away. Still fun talking to myself.
I have been Longing for someone to take the "bull by the horns" here, but I Long for them to enlighten us to the run-the-score-up way of doing things...............c'mon. Bernie Yules #1!!!!!
Speaking of Bloomfield hoon. Isn't the coach that ran the score up on Zalma so his best player could get the scoring record now at Dexter. He's the head janitor, I mean superintendent, isn't he. I here he still tries to coach from behind the bench when things don't go his way. If you know what I mean.
email me at gomizzou12@hotmail.com I like to know who I'm talking to and you can't know that here. Kevin, I really hope you email me. You too hoon.
Who is this Jason Long that everyone keeps talking about and wanting to email???
Thats what I figured you'd say.
That's what you figured WHO would say? Once again, know one knows what you are talking about.
I don't know about this one Bon................it looks like the same person to me. Hoon, who is this 5 on 5???????? I'm sure he could possibly be a Bernie Mule, possibly Captain Mule's brother's mom's step-cousin. Wonder if he wears suspenders like Uncle Mule??
You're going to have to spell it out 5on5.
BTW... this has been another very interesting conversation people. What would you like to talk about next?
I don't know who 5 is. I saw this and thought those of you who have said a few things about me would not mind emailing me so I know who you are. Or maybe you like your anonymity?
This is comical. 5 on Long is hilarious. By the way, where did 5 go? I thought he couldn't wait for my fingers to hit the keys so he could call me a moron, but now he isn't available, but some another name mysteriously appears! KB, Bon, Layne.......like I said a LONG time ago...we caught a whopper.
Again, good luck to 5 on Long this season coaching the Bernie team to big victories over all of those tough opponents!
This is nothing but funny...as in F U N N Y.
It don't take no Magnum PI to figure out that Finkle is Einhorn and Einhorn is Finkle...
How 'bout Classic movie lines/quotes/scenes?
OR the matchup zone.
Come on hoon, email me. I won't tell anyone who you are. Maybe your afraid I'll find out who you are and laugh? Or maybe your afraid everyone else will find out who you are and laugh. Hey better yet, call me. 820-0063. Hey maybe I could learn something from you. You are right about one thing. This is hilarious. Who know's we might even find time to talk about basketball.
WOW!!!!
Hoon speaking of catching a whopper it looks like your the one that has gotten caught. I know, I know, I'm Jason Long. It's me........I'm busted............LOL
Magnum PI layne? More like inch high private eye.
What are you talking about 5 foot Long????? You CANNOT be Jason Long can you????? Don't even try to match basketball IQ's with the likes of Hoon, Bon, Layne or myself. You know about as much about basketball as the old wrestler The Missing Link knows about calculus!!!!! TELL me your not employing the non-matchup-zone this year..........tell me!!!
The Wild and the Young
Kevin......Were you inbred?
Once again 5onnothing is not making since. What is this inbred talk and who the hell is Jason Long?
Jason who???? Some say he is just a man, myth, legend type. I'll bet anything that he is cousins with Capt. Mule and is also probably a decendent of a former Bernie Mule.............Billy Zoll. Am I hitting any correct chords 5 foot Long??
Bang Your Head
5 foot Long.....Just a word of advice here coming from a moron. Fade away. ALL this post/blog is supposed to be is funny....no real harm done. You started out touting all you know about hoops and trashing anything typed to the contrary. You gave hint after hint and about 4 or 5 of us know who you are....no doubts. All of a sudden posting under your real name and acting like you came across a blog where people typed something about you is hilarious....especially since minus the dead rockers, about 15 people read and post here! So, this all accomplished the goal.....and it is very FUNNY. And again, thanks for playing and trying to win amateur night, but once again, you came up Long.
Quick question....does 5 on 5 and Long always post at about the same times? (giggle, giggle).
Now let me get this straight. 5on5 is Long or Long is 5on5. I'm still confused. Who the hell is Long? I do know this....Finkle is Einhorn. Wait a minute, maybe Einhorn is Finkle. I need a drink.
Hey Bobby G. What do I get for putting up the 100th post. That's got to be a record. It's the most I have seen on one topic.
Where sure do know how to beat a dead horse.
And the MVP of this record setting blog goes to.....................LONG, I mean.....5 on 5, I mean LONG..........What the?
Just give it to Einhorn.
LOL...............I wonder if 5 foot Long is still touting himself as the supreme One as far as SCAA basketball is concerned now??LOL!!! One thing is for sure, it has been a BLAST watching him post stuff, KNOWING who he was and then........ooops..........all of a sudden the "real Slim Shady, err, I mean Jason Long" stands up and plays the ole "Hey guys, I've never been on here before, nor do I know who 5 foot Long is, but EMAIL me or better yet CALL me so I can see who has posted about me". Two words---simply stunning.
The Wild and the Long, I mean Young
Hey guys...email me at inthefloorlaughingmybuttoff.com
I won't tell anyone who you are!
No, no, no!!!! Email me at: shady5footlong@captainmulessuspenders.co...
An 'atta boy' is about all I can muster right now Bon! After reading all this, I'm not sure it was really you! May have been someone else claiming to be Bon. haha!
Who knows greer? It's all a conspiracy anyways.
So.....5 on 5 is really Finkle and Bon is not Bon? That would make Hoon's real identity Einhorn.
You guys email me at confusedbutstilllaughingatanyonewhopostsundertwodifferentpeopleafterbeingnabbedasthereal
slimshady.com
BG...this really was a great topic with some good stuff. Don't let an imposter take away from the hoops discussion that went on here.
Hoon do you think you are the only dumb dumb who's laughing? Your too stupid to realize your getting played. Your buddies yanking on your jockstrap has given a false sense of victory you nitwit. Rock on inbreds.......
Getting played, eh, Long???? Looks like you haven't changed much since your H.S. days of waiting until the game was over and going out and popping the rim in front of the Bloomfield Christmas Tourn. crowd have ya???
I remember that guy....what a dork. How many points is popping the rim worth? Typical for someone who yells at a TV.
5on5 and Jason Long and Finkle and Einhorn.... remember to be 'thick skinned' when blogging. You may be down but your not out! This has been a very good conversation and you are a part of it. Hope to hear more from you in the future.
Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
Hey Kevin, for your information that kid who popped the rim was named Travis Stanfield you twirp!!!!!!!!!! Happened after the 93 game a whole 7 years after I graduated! Way to go you dummy! It helps to actually know what you are talking about when you are attempting to bust on someone. Something that's lost with you. LOL Yea you really know who I am don't you your freaking lame brain. Your the classic wannabe. haha I love it. You have just put the S T U P I D in stupid! Keep it coming. What's next? I supposed it was Al Gore who really won the 2000 election.
Hoon-anyone who convinces themselves that they really know who's on the other side of the computer is one dumb #$%^. Keep it up. As long as you continue to think you know who I really am you will continue to amuse your inbred cronies and myself. LOL I may be a dork but i'm not dumb enough to convince myself of something that would take a sixth sense you bearcat. Your the self-proclaimed patriarch of this site. You've earned it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greer/blog man-hell I know i'm a part of this. You think I'm not enjoying this. I ain't no more down and out than you are Michael Wilbon or Andy Katz.
You speak of being rockers. Well hoon your axl rose(all blow but never wanted any when it came right down to it), Kevin your Gunner Nelson(pretty much self explanitory) Bon you remind me of Janie Lane and man did he look pathetic before he got on celebrity fit club, maybe you can straighten yourself out like he has.
Come on back with it. I here to stay!!!!!!!!!
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
(flair chop to hoon's chest and a leg drop and figure four to that little girl name bon, Kevin I won't mess with you because your the manager, ha!!)
SUCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is getting weird...
And Bon should not get anything for the 100th b/c he did back-to-back posts to get there.
Hey, screw you staley. I'll give you a flair chop to the chest.
Good luck to the Bernie Mules. Would hate for my son to be in a gym and/or locker room with THAT everyday. Long's Coo Coo for CoCoa Puffs.
After receiving a call from the buoooy, I thought I would jump on the DS and check out what is going on in Bobby's Blog. Wow what an interesting conversation.....thanks for the laughs.
I have nothing to add other than.....the GOATS are still undefeated and never played a match-up.
One more thing that comes to mind after reading the last 200 posts.....Has the janitor/superintendent re-painted the state of Missouri on the south wall of the DHS gym? Last time I checked, a missile was fired at that ole wall that had lasting effects on Poopa Smurf...poor girl...I guess good things must come to an end some time....
Stitze a good coach....are you kidding me? He knows more about concrete than coaching!! 5 on 5...you lost me on that one.
Sheena was a man.
Sorry Bon.... you did post back to back. I have to retract that 'atta boy'!
Sincerely,
Andy Katz
Long, I really wish you and your Bernie Mules luck this year with the likes of Vashon, KC Rockhurst, Pine Bluff and SCC. You have really STEPPED up your schedule. Just try not to be too hard on those teams when you are up by 40 at the end of the 1st quarter!!!haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
greer-thanks for the sense of humor. No offense meant as I'm sure you took none. Believe me when I say I enjoy your blog's....
Hoon and Kevin-The scharade continues.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
You comments cut like a knife baby! I'm kind of bored with hoon and kevin, oops I mean axl and Gunner. First you act like you know who I am and then when you attempt to make the person that I supposedly am look bad you can't even come up with accurate information or provide correct examples. Hey here's a hint. Hoon I used to absolutely terrorize the courts up at Sonic park and at the old junior high gym. Kevin I really can't give you a hint as I've never wrestled against anyone you've managed you Captain Lou Albano son-of-a-gun.
Kevin I wish you luck at Rhodes 101. Hey if I drive up to the drive through will you re-fill my cup inbetween mopping and cleaning the toilets??
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
eye gouge to hoon(after he removes the bifocals and upper-cut to the groin of Kevin, but I'll never do that again. My dang hand almost got stuck!
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
5 foot Long........I think by now EVERYONE that posts here knows that Long is Finkle and Einhorn is Jason. It doesn't take Inspector Clueso to figure that one out. And AGAIN, you fell for the ole "I'll blame Long for something everyone KNOWS he didn't do to get a rise out of him". Geez. Your nothing more than a glorified sucker, but I must admit though, remember, I have seen you and know who you are. All the wrestling analogies in the world cannot hide the simple but disturbing fact that you are a CLONE of George the Animal Steel!!!
Come on Feel the Noizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Where the hell did all this wrestling crap come from. 5on5, or whoever you are, do you even know who Kevin Dubrow is. This started out as a good debate on Olympic b-ball and Coach K and it has now turned into you giving Rick Flair chops and figure fours. All I can say about that is, "dork".
And to clue you in on something. There is no such place as Sonic Park. It is West Park and I highly doubt that you dominated the basketball court there or at the old Junior High. Keep on believing it though and work on those wrestling moves.
BG - we are way out in left field now...I think we need another topic...as if it would help!
I tried Layne! I thought everyone could change gears and talk about high sports salaries but this basketball thing is still pretty hot.
Bon: Long is a fan of wrestling and has always said things like this. By the way, I suppose JasonLong is not concerned anymore that some are talking about him. Just that one day he happened across this site and had to post.
I was thinking back on 5 on Long's accomplishments and I don't know that I would consider any award won playing Bernie Baseball an accomplishment. Also wouldn't brag about where I played college ball if that is the biggest school I could land a 'ship at.
LOL...........JasonLong is just blowing smoke. I seriously DOUBT he played ANY college ball anywhere. I know for a fact he said he was also "All-State". Again, another lie. I don't even think he made all-conf. as a senior as I recall it was "honorable mention". Give me a break. He probably kept stats at whatever college he attended and that was his claim to fame. No hate the playa, hate the game!!
We'll get Wild Wild Wild
All State baseball at Bernie is the equivolent of making an all-star team in coach pitch.
I went to college with Jason Long back in the day and I do not recall him playing too much "ball". Basketball that is!
Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
I know who you are 5on5. Blah blah.
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring.
He sucks, he sucks, they play a weak schedule, blah blah blah blah blah.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
For the record the all state comment was sarcasm. But run with it baby run with it............
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
another thing kevin the nitwit. You sure are slick. It only took you a whole day to realize you stuck your foot in your mouth before you backtracked and chalk it up to me "falling for the bait". The only people you have fooled are tweedle dee and tweedle dum. You guys all wake up every morning with a "case of the dums." This must me some type of victory for you guys. Hell I already told you that "you got me"! LOL
Hey hoon-you speak of thinking back on accomplishments. Do you have posters of him on the wall. He's been out of school along time you ding bat. LOL Pull that foot out of your dumpster.
Bon-you don't know when to shut up or talk. You too busy coordinating with hoon and kevin on three way calling trying to come up with witty material aren't you. I called it Sonic park. I remember you always yelling "I got next" every other game. LOL
Man I don't know where to begin. Hoon all I will say to you is that I have looked at these blogs on this website for a long time. One of the blogs that comes to mind is the one about my good buddy Jamie Sifford. I read post after post of people just slamming him. I know he made a mistake but that blog stick out in my mind. Best of luck to Jamie and I'll still be your buddy when you get out man. The point is I've never posted before last week but I've read these blogs for a long time. When I saw my name being thrown around I got upset. I originally got a little too upset and made a mistake by putting my email and phone number on her. Like Greer said you need to be thick skinned even if your not the one stirring the pot hey? I would suspect that 5on5 is a buddy of mine because we do share alot of the same opinions. Not all but alot. I also wish he'd shut up!haha
Kevin-I don't know if you are serious or what. But I think what you write is funny. Although I originally took a little offense to some of the things you posted. But again, if I read this I should be thick skinned.
Hillel-Did we really go to college together? When and where? I will state that you are incorrect in your statements. But it really don't matter. That was a long time ago.
Another nice rant from our sarcastic All Stater 5 on Long.
I think at one time he said I had resorted to name calling.
Still miss the days of discussing pick and rolls and defense, which Long on 5 typed nothing about.
I miss the days when these blogs weren't weird...
I say tax them Layne!
wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
hoon you just can't stand it can you. Look its not his fault you've made a fool of yourself. Those rants you speak of aren't nearly as bad as yours. Hell I could have read 5 books at barnes and noble and said the things you said about basketball. You were the one doing all the namecalling. A sure fire sign of low self-esteem. Along with sharing idiotic opinions while hiding behind a screen name(you and kevin are neck and neck in this department) Like I said, Axl Rose baby..........Axl Rose. Or should I say Hall/Wade/Denbow. LOL
Missed the days of talking about pick and roll defense huh? YOu never said anything yourself. Go open up Don Meyer's book from 77 and see what he says. woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Hell I know why you remain anonymous. You'd get your butt whipped otherwise. You have nothing of substance to offer so you try to make fun of others. LOL Bring it baby, bring it..........
There is still no place called Sonic Park. And you are still a major DORK. If you truly did graduate from Bernie in '86 like you said, I know for a fact you never came close to "dominating the courts" in Dexter. There is only one, maybe two players from Bernie in the time frame that you speak of that could have done that, and from my knowledge they never played at those places. So give it a rest 5on5 and focus on Bernie beating Cooter this year.
Are you actually talking about the Don Meyer from Northern State University? If so, I rest my case. You truly are a moron.
Jason....pipe down. Bon, Kevin, myself and the other dead rockers know you and in the beginning, found this funny. Let it go and save some face.
LOL. Simply stunning. Let it go 5 foot Long........................
YES JASON LONG WE DID GO TO THREE RIVERS TOGETHER. ACTUALLY SAT BEHIND YOU IN SPEECH WITH MR.BOLAND. I REMEMBER A LOT OF THE BASKETBALL PLAYERS: SUNDAY, CLAUDIUS, DOMINIC, THE BIG AUSSIE, JUST DON'T REMEMBER A LOT ABOUT YOU PLAYING.
That was a fun team to watch. I went to several games when Sunday was playing. They did need more consistency with the three though. Streaky shooters.
I think you have your Jason's mixed up Hillel. JasonLong went to college at Duke University and played for Coach K for 4 years, then played some overseas ball, then coached at DeMatha H.S. succeeding Morgan Wooten!!!!haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa If you believe that I've got some ocean-front property for sale in Bernie, MO!!!!!
Come on feel the Noizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
You know 5 on Long.............it is very ironic that you compared ShannonHoon to Axl Rose. You see, Hoon befriended his sister Anna's high school friend, Axl Rose. Rose invited Hoon to join him in the studio, where his band Guns N' Roses were recording their albums Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II. Hoon sang backing vocals on several of the tracks, including "The Garden" and "Don't Cry". Rose also invited Hoon to appear in the video for "Don't Cry", giving Hoon his first real taste of stardom. So there ya go.............they were intertwined more than you even knew, weren't they??? Of course, it was a lucky guess on your part b/c it's obvious that you didn't know such a thing.
Girls Rock your boyzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
5 on Long....
Hope your little one is better after a week of recovery since having "minor" surgery a week ago tomorrow. Mean that. My other buds on here wondered why we didn't hear from either you or your altar ego 5 on 5 last Friday. But I will say, when it comes to the little ones, no surgery is minor and I do hope everything went really well and a FULL recovery is in place!!!!!!!.......here is to new topics, healthy kids, and FOOTBALL season.
Ok. Thank you. You are right about the surgery and you ain't seen nothing until you've seen my daughter come down from anesthesia(spelling?) I do hope everyone knows this was all in fun. If you know me you know I'm always playing devils advocate and I'm a big time smart alec and I love to stir the pot. I'm not too proud to fess up. But I would like to add just one thing on a serious note. I NEVER HAVE TOLD ANYONE IN MY LIFE I PLAYED AT THREE RIVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!(I slept most of that semester anyway) And the all state crap was sarcasm. I'm not that full of myself! No more 5on5.(although you have to admit it would have been boring otherwise). But how in the world did you find out about my daughter's surgery? LOL
Dido that hoon. Jason, I hope your daughter makes a full recovery.
Long, remember Big Brother is always watching. I hear that shannonhoon is tied in with the CIA, FBI, MIB (Men In Black), Roswell, the Kennedys, and the NBA! You can't slip anything by him.... especially a pick and roll!
Love to the little one. Like Hoon said, when it's your kid it's never minor stuff. Been there, done that.
This should be turned into a FREAKin' movie or sitcom! Great laughs had by all and man are we rackin' up the numbers for BG's posts!!!!!!
Always remember.....the dead rockstars are here to make people think, laugh, snicker, wonder, and smile!
I have always heard that anesthesia can turn a beautiful child into the exorcist. Seems like all is well and I knew Bon, DuBrow, and the other deceased rockers would be glad to know.....
Later Tater.
Great to hear all is well in the blogosphere.
And greer, I got 150 with a double-post...what's good for Bon is good for layne!
I retracted Bon's 'atta boy' after finding out he double posted but 150 is HUGE for blog comments. KUDOS and thanks.
