FJG, I agree...call me paranoid...call me anything you want, but in this case, it is better to err on the side of safety. I honestly do not know if Winston would have chosen to continue with Julia had he known the real consequences...I haven't exactly walked in his shoes, but if we assume that Julia's treatment was the same as Winston's, well, as far as the book goes, any woman would have broken and fairly quickly...and in reality in the real world also...I don't know if I would go so far as to say they lost their soul, but yes, they were broken...and there are a lot of broken people in the world today...
And some people, who when pushed past their limits will act in the extreme, d@^! the consequences...
BNT, Everything online can be monitored and most of it can be traced, so it is best just to assume that someone, somewhere is looking over your shoulder.
Interesting observation, BNT. Would Winston have gone to the effort to have clandestine rendezvous with Julia if he had known it would result in him being taken to Room 101 and having a rat cage strapped to his face? Orwell doesn't explain in "1984" what was done to Julia to drive her to betray Winston. However, they both lost their soul and replaced their devotion for each other with love for Big Brother.
FJGuy, I do remember...but at some point, we have to decide if we want to live in fear of who might be watching and what might happen because of that, or say screw it and live each moment for itself and to the fullest degree possible...quality or quantity? And I would say the 'renters' in 1984 were glad they did as they did...
Remember that in "1984" a kindly old man rented a bedroom above his shop to Winston Smith so he could have illegal trysts with his girlfriend. The old man turned out to be an officer of the Thought Police, and a hidden telescreen in the bedroom recorded everything Winston and his girlfriend did.
Nice point, Bobby.....but isn't that what Big Brother wants the most? Fear from the citizens? All the easier to maniplate and control the throng?
Maybe they are afraid Big Brother will hear them!
Cookies, cookies, who's got the cookies...peanut butter is my personal favorite, but aren't we talking about the other kind of cookies? Anyone have anything new to say about Big Brother?
Agree FJ....Oatmeal Raisins kick major gluteous maximus.
Thanks, FJGuy, that's good advice for all of us...see, we're never too old to learn new tricks...
GL, I suspect that certain fed agencies are disregarding current law and are planting cookies on the computers of visitors. Before visiting a fed website you can avoid unwanted cookies by going to Tools, Options, Privacy, and unchecking the "Accept Cookies" box. You can then recheck it after leaving the fed website.
BTW, I'm partial to oatmeal raisin cookies.
I like Oreo cookies the best, but some chocolate chips are good as well. But I don't eat cookies while using my computer.
GoatLady, the answer to your question is yes and no....you can go to Tools, internet options, and delete history, cookies, etc...but as we all know from watching too many crime shows on tv...well, nothing ever really goes away unless you wipe your hard drive and most of us wouldn't want to do that unless we are more computer savvy than I am...find an IT person you trust and get their advice..
Is it possible to erase the cookies from your computer?
The "Big Brother" agreement that dealers had to accept before entering the CARS website was intentional, and it is consistent with the Obama administrations current effort to overturn the ban on federal agencies placing cookies on the computers of visitors to federal websites. An ACLU spokesman said the change would "allow the mass collection of personal information of every user of a federal government website." See, the Washington Post article, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...
Having developed a number of websites, I can categorically state that the "reasons" are 100% bogus that the Obama administration has given for allowing the federal government to track all visitors to federal websites, AFTER THEY LEAVE THE WEBSITE.
I remember in 1996 I had a discussion with a person who scoffed my suggestion was crazy that the feds would eventually use cookies to track everyone's Internet usage. Obama is trying to make that "crazy" idea a reality.
Uh oh, I'm scared now Bobby...I'm Capricorn on the cusp of Sagittarius...
I've had experiences with picking up what I think were CB radio conversations as well..on my car radio, phone and even television set...I know when you are using a CB that you know it isn't a private conversation, but it is more than a bit disconcerting to think that your phone conversations can be listened in on..not that that should be surprising to any of us these days. It does promote a sense of being violated. And just in case no one knows this (I know I'm a little behind the curve when it comes to hi-tech stuff)...IF you have or plan to get WIFI for your laptop or game systems...make sure that when you are setting it up that you change the default password.....AND know that people can use your connection for free if they are within so many feet. I know you all already know this, but had to put it out there...
Hey, fun2teach...something that happened to me a couple of years ago that I (we) never did get to the bottom of...I kept getting phone calls for an individual whom I had never met...finally after several 'wrong numbers' I asked the caller what number they were dialling...it was NOT my number, but it WAS my phone that rang when they dialled. This was back when I only had a land line, but I did have caller ID...after that last conversation, I called my carrier...after a bunch of hemming and hawing, I was told that apparently some glitch in the system had crossed our two numbers and that it would be taken care of...it was, but I wonder what the whole story was and what was really going on...could have been an innocent mistake, maybe not...
The baby monitor that picked up the neighbor's calls the best was the one I had with my oldest daughter. That was almost 15 years ago! Sorry...I don't remember the brand! Our neighbors had a cordless phone and if they were on it you could hear the entire conversation! I was kind enough to let them know what was going on. They were good sports about it and even requested that I start screening their teenager's calls! LOL!
I had a similar situation with the monitor I had for my youngest who is almost 6. I believe that was by Graco. I live near an Interstate and it would pick up what I assumed to be the truckers talking on CB's. Anyway, it was always men talking and none of them sounded like any of my neighbors.
Cordless headsets work the same way. At one point we tried using them at work while calling children out to the car rider line. We however had to stop using them when we had other people cutting into our conversations. I believe those headsets were purchased at Radio Shack.
Any time you download a program it will have small print pertaining to privacy and what they can and can't do with your info.
Sorry Bobby, that was a low blow. My excuse is MENOPAUSE!!! lol
What brand of baby monitor...that is cool!
Fark News.
Ahhh....someone who thinks outside the box...excellent...and reads between the lines...awesome..
I believe that we are being 'watched' more than we know. If a simple baby monitor will pick up a neighbors telephone conversation just imagine what the government can do with all of their technology. Nothing would surprise me!
Bobby, WOOHOO!!! You da MAN!!
Here's another link..to check the checkers...

What we all have to remember is that we are all HUMAN and inherently we have opinions and biases...and it is humanly impossible to know everything there is to know about any one thing.
Gemini, are you one of those people who hesitate to take responsibility for your own thoughts and actions? I don't think so, nor do I believe GL falls in that category...Hoon put it very well...and I applaud you for going to Snopes and checking to see what they had to say about it, but even after doing so myself, my mind was not changed...I think the wording used originally was exactly what they intended it to be...and it doesn't make a hill of beans difference if it WAS supposed to be just for the dealers....bottom line is that they didn't expect anyone to read the fine print, but they got busted and then had to hustle in some CYA...oops, we didn't really mean it to say that, it's just standard terminology...BS..
If Bobby really wanted an intelligent debate he would have posted both sides.
Bobby,be like Brad and accept responsibility for your own actions.
If you believe that all topics blogged are true, then you are the "uneducated" one. Does this thinking mean that Madeline's blog about men being happier people is the truth?
I'm thinking my next blog should have something to do with different families with the same last name.....what do you think?
GOAT....proud of you for getting in the game and opening up so much! Sorry you take my views as hate. My strong opinions against government power, hypocracy, extreme liberalism, raising taxes, wealth envy, lack of common sense, unsustainable in the RED spending, support of one candidate or another, obvious liberal news bias, and other crap equal HATE? C'mon. Loud, outspoken, goofy, tongue in cheek, crazy, drunk, overbearing? But not HATE.
If my typing affected who you voted for, please turn in your voter registration card.
I love it GOAT. In a very subtle, nice way, you typed what I feel....MOST of us are in the middle, somewhere. Most of us agree on more than we disagree on. Most of us have common sense and are principle guided. Most of us think government is out of control in some regard. GOAT, you and I may need to sit down for a tea and beer.
In the meantime, I will celebrate the progress of GOAT jumpin in feet first and sharing some passionate opinion with us.
GOAT, please don't think I am about hate, I am not. I love debating and this is a great place to do it.....but I promise if I ran into you on the street I would greet you with a smile and a hello and I could give a shirap less what party affiliation or political opinions shape you.
I say, keep typing.
I also say, keep SHOUTing against this **** healthcare plan. It is nuts and both parties are sucking the big one when it comes to this issue. Step back, clean house, take it slow, and fix some major problems with the system.....don't turn it into the the USPS!
Night Night Goat.
Bon....I will agree with all of it but the goat burger. Not into visiting the armpit of the bootheel to eat GOAT!
Somebody must be watching Big Brother. This is the 11th season....oh, wait a minute, that's reality TV. We are actually living in the twilight zone. Ahhh, the Long Hammers are good though.
I'm Bon Scott, and I love cold beer, good cigars, "goat" burgers from Puxico Homecoming, and the good 'ole U.S. of A.
Gemini...scroll back to the top of this page...Mr. Greer's only entry is "Watch this video on the CARS (Cash for Clunkers) program and share your thoughts on it. " No where in that quote do I see where he is indicating ANYTHING as truth...only a request to watch and share thoughts...so before you go slamming someone's ethics, you might want to (first) make sure you understand what you read...
The one that has his name on the blog. Bobby Greer!
If you are going to post something like he just posted the ethical thing to do is to post both sides, not just post one and feed it to the uneducated as the truth.
BTW, Gemini, what journalist were you referring to in your comment about checking out both sides before printing something as the truth?
Yes, I did read the Snopes info, and it looks as if hoon and Texas are the ones who got "outed."
And, hoon, don't try to put words in my mouth and try to say what I THINK. You're really good at stereotyping people, but the fact is that very few of us are all liberal or all conservative (well, there are obvious exceptions.)
The fact that I'm liberal on one issue does NOT mean that I buy into every liberal idea that comes down the pike. I have NEVER said I supported "Cash for Clunkers" or the stimulus plan or the health care bill. Like most Americans, I haven't even read the health care document.
You're doing the same thing you did before the election - shoving everyone into a pile and setting fire to it.
It may come as a shock to you, but I hadn't even made up my mind about who I was going to vote for until you and your people started that horrible, horrible hate campaign on the blogs and the email!
And I thought, "I'm going to vote for people who behave like THIS???"
As far as I'm concerned, you have no one to blame but yourselves for any mess we might or might not be in. Your hatefulness did NOT get your candidate elected, and it won't save this country!
Gemi-Hat is another bed wetter....
All these people have is "scare tactics", "the last 8 years", "change", "hope", "what about Medicaid and Social Security?" (as if they are worth a **** and NOT going BROKE), "mobs", "disrupting the process", "tax the rich"......they have NO substantial ideas.
It is great to know that a growing majority is skeptical and seeing through the teleprompter though.
UPS and FedEx are doing all right. Its the Post Office that is having so much trouble
....The Messiah in Chief
Okay, Gemini....call it scare tactics or whatever you want to, but did you READ the Snopes info? The wording has now been changed and oh, the original site was for dealers only...big freakin' deal...they got outed...and had to backstroke...gees...
You would think that a journalist would check out all sides before printing something as the truth.
Now that you have heard from the people that want to use scare tactics go to this site and read the truth...http://www.snopes.com/computer/internet/clunkers.asp
Big Brother is and has been watching for a very long time...kinda makes you stop and scratch your head...and ponder the possibilities...OnStar, anyone? GPS chip in your cell phone? Medical technology..that little console that sits on the kitchen table of people who are elderly or home-bound for whatever reason, that tells the caregiver across town if they have taken their meds on time or even been moving around in their own house? ..or the little credit card sized unit that is so weather proof it can be dropped in your yard and continue transmitting for years?...not to mention the implantable chip that holds your entire medical history and who knows what else...I have a close friend who recently had some dental work done..the dentist pulled this little tiny thing out of her tooth and asked her if she realized she had been being watched...the dentist went on to explain that back in the late '70s and early '80s that our wonderful government had contracted newbie dentists (in exchange for forgiving their huge student loans) to randomly implant these chips (without the patient's knowledge of course)...so, yeeeaash, BB is very much a reality...and then on a personal note, a few years back, I was approached about 'leasing' my computer to the government so they could access it in the middle of the night to use to 'crunch' information coming in from satellites in space...yeah, right...so if any of you think you are NOT being watched and monitored, I just want to know what galaxy you are from...
Scary as hell. Not surprising, but scary. Along the same lines as Homeland Security now targeting veterans and other groups with certain bumper stickers on their vehicles. The wackO's raised cain when Ashcroft, Cheney, and Bush wire tapped potential terrorists, acting as if they were listening to them talk at the kitchen table while eating their ramen noodles.
I say Goat and Dexterite log on and get a direct line with their hero and the other hacks he is surrounded with. Kidding Goat and ite!
I do recommend researching the background of the Czars this moron has annointed...they are fringe, extreme political hacks that answer to NO ONE but the messiah in chief and influence policy directly.
