Cardinal NotesPosted Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at 9:41 PM
* Matt Holliday has signed the largest contract in Cardinal history. * David Freese will play third base unless the Cards sign Tejada. * Still looking for a fifth starter since the Cards won't be able to afford Pineiro. * Schumaker did well his first season at second base. * Jim Edmonds may return to St. Louis. * Still looking for another setup/closer guy. Spring training is right around the corner. For true baseball fans, the day pitchers and catchers report is like no other. What do you see in the crystal ball for St. Louis this year? Will the Cards win the Central Division? Will Pujols stay after this season? Share your opinion.... Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Why did one of my earlier posts get deleted? I thought everything I typed was gospel.
I did not realize Jimmy had such strong hands!
Well it was fun while it lasted. BTW 'hoon did you get that date?
I don't know if I can stomach another year of seeing Jimmy Ballgame whiff on an up and in fastball then weakly wave at at duece in the dirt. He had some good years with the Birds but they can do better. OBTW, this doesn't make me a homophobe does it?
kk is a thinker now!!!! I like it!
kk: Any thoughts on Edmonds being on one side of the batter's box or the other?
I think the Redbirds should slide over to KC and snatch Zack Greinke out from under the Royals, nothing like adding an AL Cy Young winner to the starting rotation in Busch next year, besides, the Royals haven't found the secret to backing him up at the plate, on the field, or out of the bullpen, a monumental waste of a damned good arm, and all round good player....further, deponent saith not....later, kk
I heard he was bi. I know this because I talked to a dude that knows another guy who told him that a friend saw Edmonds shake hands and hug a guy at Patio's one night...That definitely means it's true.
Anyone who sits in the bleachers and cheers on points 98,99,100, and 101 in a 101-11 point victory has NO say in a discussion of sportsmanship and ethics.
Is Edmonds still gay?
Smoltz is still in the picture but it sounds like the Cards are looking for a bargain.
I loved the electricity created by Big Mac and Sammy Sosa when the great homerun race was on. Every baseball fan did. Those two sluggers brought a lot of fans back to the glorious game, which was a great thing. However, I do not approve of McGwire's methods (the juice) and think his numbers should be tossed out the window.
I do think he brings 'good' to the game now with his experience and wisdom and hopefully his coaching career will be long and prosperous.
In short, I do not support McGwire, the player but I do support McGwire, the coach.
I must have missed the part where Bobby G. said he was a McGwire supporter. And in actuality, steroids are not illegal....If they did sign Edmonds, it wouldn't be to become their saving grace. His bat may be slower but he is still a way above average defensive outfielder....They have four very solid starters, so if they don't spend the money on Holiday, and he goes elsewhere, that sends a negative sign towards Pujols....dexter_dad, maybe you should stick to girls basketball and embarrassing weaker teams.
Bobby after your last blog I can't believe that you are a Big Mac supporter. What kind of message does this send to the youth? If you take illegal drugs then years later you confess, (after everybody allready knows the truth) everything is alright? This is NOT the message I want sent to my children. The ONLY reason McGwire came clean is he was offered a job in baseball otherwise we would have never heard that confession.
Now on to the moves the Cardinals are making. I love the fact they locked up Holliday, but think they may have went a little overboard. We got rid of Edmonds a couple years ago for a reason, he's done! What makes people think after sitting out all of last year that he's going to come back and be the saving grace of the Cardinals? Would have liked to seen them spend some of that Holliday money on some pitching. Remember the old addage pitching and defense win championships? I think there money would have been better spent on a fifth starter, and a reliever. LaRussa is to in love with these past their prime veterans, lets give some of the youngsters a chance.
I say the Cardinals will win the division by 6. Who knows after that...Good job signing Holiday...I think Pujols will sign an even bigger contract next year to stay in St. Louis for the rest of his career...Bring on Edmunds, they need a good reserve outfielder...Who doesn't need a good reliever...And what happened to Smoltz?
Hey hoon - the Rams did have him "frothing at the mouth" with frustration this year, but , I meant rabid definition #3 as in a fanatic!.....I meanwhile, am waiting for the polls to close in MA to see if Brown can get it done. I could not believe Coakley did not know who Curt Schilling is - in Redsox nation!
I bet Holliday doesn't give up the #15. He had to 'compromise' another number when coming to St. Louis. He used to be #5. EVERYONE knows who #5 for the Cardinals is!
I am SUPER excited that Jimmy may return! Hope he gets #15 back!
More of the same from LaLoser and the Cards....GREAT lineup, exciting to watch and fun to root for, but in need of more in the arm dept. or we will all be sad eyes come next September.
Cheers, your son has rabies?
That is good news, but......at the end of the day, when all the chips have been played, will he still be in Cardinal red?
I certainly hope so. Many people are thinking that the Cardinals are giving up on signing Albert after giving Holiday such a lucrative deal. I'm looking at it from the other side of the fence. I believe they signed Holiday to show their commitment to Pujols by keeping quality players around him.
Hey Bobby - I just heard Pujols comment on Mac's admission and he says he supports Mac and is looking forward to working with him in spring training. He concluded the interview saying he hopes to be a Cardinal for the rest of his career...good news for those rabid, er, I mean dedicated, Cardinal fans like my son!
