Battle in the Central DivisionPosted Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at 9:03 AM
Some harsh words have been spoken by Cincinnati Redleg second baseman Brandon Phillips describing his hatred towards the St. Louis Cardinals and Tuesday night the Cardinals (specifically Yadier Molina) let Cincinnati know that Mr. Phillips may have awoken a sleeping giant. Phillips comment that Molina took offense to: "I'd play against these guys with one leg. We have to beat these guys. I hate the Cardinals. All they do is b***c and moan about everything, all of them, they're little bi***es, all of 'em. I really hate the Cardinals. Compared to the Cardinals, I love the Chicago Cubs. Let me make this clear: I hate the Cardinals." The cardinals took the second game of a crucial three game series [after also winning the first game] to pass the Reds by percentage points regaining the top spot in the National League's Central Division. More importantly, Yadier Molina standing up for his teammates to the brash-mouthed Phillips may have been the best team oriented momentum move of the year. Yadier Molina's comment after Tuesday's victory: "He talked bad about my team, he talked bad about me. Don't talk bad and come up and say 'hi' to me. That's stupid." How do you think this event will affect the Cardinals and the Reds the rest of the year? Which team will finish atop the division? Let's talk some trash and make some predictions! This will fire up the Cardinals for awhile, which is good for them. Nothing like a little name calling and scuffle to get your team motivated. Unfortunately, the Cards have shown they are just an average team at best this year, very inconsistent, erratic play has been their recurring theme all season long. So while I predict they will win the division, I think they will get eliminated early in the playoffs. I hope I am wrong, we all remember 2006, they clearly were not the best team heading into October but got hot and won it all, that could happen again and I hope it does, but my ultimate prediction is that the Evil Empire (Yankees) will win back-to-back titles (yuck)!
Well reasoned prediction Chuck.
Hoping for the 2006 deja vu all over again scenario!!!!
Got to love Yadi!
The Cardinals bullpen is horrific, enough said.
