NSC website goes live today!

Posted Friday, September 25, 2009, at 10:40 AM

In an effort to bring the North Stoddard Countian into the 21st Century, we are proud to announce that this morning a new North Stoddard Countian website was launched.

To visit the site, simply direct your browser to http://www.dailystatesman.com/nsc or click on the link at the right side of the Daily Statesman web page.

The site has almost all of the features offered by the Daily Statesman website and should be a real boost not only for the North Stoddard Countian, but for the community as well.

Links are posted to numerous different community web sites in an effort to put community needs right at the reader's fingertips. Feel free to send in any links not on here that may be useful.

In the immediate future, new blogs will begin to be introduced in addition to other new features.

The site will give us at The North Stoddard Countian to post news more frequently than what is currently possible with a weekly newspaper. For instance, Tuesday morning is when we put the NSC together and it is printed in Kennett in the afternoon. This Tuesday afternoon, a car caught on fire on Depot Rd. in Bloomfield. I was on hand to get photos of the incident, but because of deadlines, it would be 8 days before the photo can be used. This would give us the opportunity to get that information out to the public sooner.

While not all of the information contained in the North Stoddard Countian will be published online, additionally not all online material will make the newspaper.

Anyone with suggestions or tips, feel free to e-mail me at cnoles@dailystatesman.com

We hope everyone enjoys the new site and sees it as an opportunity to make a useful tool for our communities.

Happy Surfing!

I looked and the site doesn't have Ace Reporter Madeline DeJournett's column. Will that be added to the website?

Thanks Corey, this will be very helpful.

I'm still having trouble viewing any of the other stories that are supposed to be on the site. Whenever I click on the numbers, I just get the "error" message down at the bottom of the screen.

So far, at this early stage, I don't see an advantage of this site. It looks just like the Statesman site and has the same things.

I guess it'll be more developed as time goes on.

Good to see Mr. Corbin on here!

Corey Noles' response:
It's quite possible you're having a computer issue GL. So far, no one else has said anything about not being able to see the stories.

While currently there are only 10 stories on the new site, only three of them appear on the Statesman site as well. Sharing of content is a practice that goes on with all of our sister papers so there will always be a certain amount of overlap, but this site will have plenty that will be exclusive to it. In the very near future there will be NSC only blogs posted. A couple have been selected from the Bloomfield area and some are being hunted for in Advance as we speak.

Because not all of the NSC stories ever made it to a website, we have never had the ability to see comments on our stories and this site will change that.

Just give it a little time and trust me! This will be a good thing once it gets moving.

Thanks for reading!

C

Ah, I trust you, Corey! I'll try to be patient, and I also have an order in for a new computer before the end of the year. Then, I'll be able to see how much of my problem is because of a 7-year-old computer and which is due to DIAL UP!

Update: Corey, I'm on a different computer, and - you're right - I can access all of the stories on this site! Great local news! Still can't post comments about them, but I guess that'll come in time, too.

I Still Don't See Ace Reporter MD's Columns?

-- Posted by FJGuy on Sun, Oct 4, 2009, at 10:11 AM

FJGuy, maybe that's because Ace Reporter MD hasn't written any new columns! Her last one still appears to be on there, along with the stories (which I can't access on this computer.)

My home computer is getting soooooooooooooo slow! It's driving me craaaaaaaaaaazy!!!

-- Posted by goat lady on Sun, Oct 4, 2009, at 8:01 PM

Guess I need new glasses because I don't see any of MD's columns on the website. But GL, it seems that your o and a keys are sticking! Either that or you get distracted when ppprrreeesssiiinnnggg them!

You are soooooo riiiiiiiight! Oooooops!

Which "columns" are you talking about, FJ? Right now, only one column is current: The rest are in the archives on the Statesman site. It would indeed be nice if our NSC bloggers could post "extra" blogs on the NSC site - but it looks as if the blogs will be identical for both the NSC and the Statesman.

It would also be nice if we could entice some other local bloggers to jump on board with some NEW blogs! We need more blogs!!!

Corey Noles' response:
As of this week there will be one new NSC-only blogger. He would've gone live already, but there were some flu issues in the family that put things on hold for a short bit, but it is coming. I also have at least one other lined up, but don't have a start date yet.

As always, though, we're still looking for more!
