Obama's Nobel PrizePosted Friday, October 9, 2009, at 8:24 AM
When I woke up this morning and went to wash my hair before leaving for the office my phone rang and a friend of mine was telling me that apparently President Obama had just won the Nobel Peace Prize.
To be honest, at first I thought it was a joke and I waited for a punch line. The idea just makes absolutely no sense at this point in his presidency.
According to the rules, nominations close for the prize on February 1, a mere 11 days into his term of office.
The idea that some day down the road he could have won one wouldn't have surprised me but I've never seen the award given for what someone "might do."
As a matter of fact, typically years pass following an accomplishment before you are nominated for these awards.
A pair of doctors, for example, just won the Nobel Prize for Medicine for a development that may change the face of cancer treatment. The discovery was made by them several years ago.
Right now there's even a push to bring more troops to Afghanistan. I just don't get it.
I guess Europe was just so excited to get rid of Bush that they thought his replacement deserved an award!
