55 Cardinals pics...help!

Posted Thursday, January 27, 2011, at 10:25 AM

So about a year ago I found this photo of the '55 Cardinals in a box in our shed. I think they were taken by my grandfather, but I don't know that for sure. I believe there are a few more but I haven't located them just yet.

For some reason I don't have an option to post more than one at a time or I'd place the others. I'm going to check into that this morning, too.

What I'm wondering is if anyone can identify them...I can't tell. There were several biggies on that team and I'm just curious to know. The only thing I believe I know is that they appear to have been taken in September 1955 at Sportsman's Park. You can see the old Budweiser scoreboard and everything even.

If you don't know who they are, that's fine, I just thought others might enjoy seeing these, too.

Corey, other Statesman bloggers have bemoaned the fact that they can post only one photo at a time on these blogs. I've noticed that the actual news stories can have several. Good luck finding out why. I suggest you start with BobbyG and work your way down!

Well, how can we begin!!!??? Stan Musial was on 1st, Red Schoendienst was 2nd, Ken Boyer was on 3rd, SS was Grammas??, LF was Repulski, CF was Virdon, RF was Moon, and Sarni at catcher, team went 68-86, finished 7th, at.442, and I believe Harry Walker was one of two managers that year. Center background is the old Carter Carburetor plant on Spring Ave, and Grand Blvd. was behind the scoreboard. Stan "the Man", was top player of the year. Our Cub Scout pack went up to a ball game, June or July as I recall. The old park is now, maybe was a big Boys and Girls Club, circa 1967-68. Lots of memories in St. Louis, good blog, FIND the other pictures, please, and GO Cardinals!!! I live in KC area, but still bleed Red and White, Regards, kkr
