Another season, new memoriesPosted Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 9:21 PM
As I sit around enjoying my week off and getting geared up for the first game of the season, I always get kind of nostalgic. There are so many memories that always come flooding back the first time of the year that I kick on the radio and hear Mike Shannon calling the shots. I still remember my first baseball game like it was yesterday: April 18, 1987. My parents and I had gone to St. Louis for the weekend and as a surprise for my 7th birthday, they took me to my first game. I will always remember watching Ozzie Smith cart-wheel onto the field and thinking that was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. The Cardinals beat the New York Mets that day 12-8 in extra innings with a 2-out Tom Herr grand slam that sealed the deal. Since that day in 1987 I've been to many games, only a couple of which stand out quite like my first game ever. Thursday morning I'm heading out for my first ever opening day and hope it makes another great memory. Anyone else want to share their first game? |
