Election Day! Live Blog from the courthouse!
Well, guys and gals, today's the day. Chances are most of you who care enough to read this have already cast your vote and can't wait to get off work and camp out in front of the television for the night.
I'll be camped out at the courthouse in Bloomfield for the evening doing live election updates as fast as returns are brought to my makeshift desk. I'll also be sending out final results via Textcaster so if you haven't signed up make sure you get registered today so you will be one of the first to know!
I will also, time permitting, be blogging live from my seat in the County Commission room throughout the evening. Basically, that will just consist of updates on how things are going, the mood, how packed the courthouse is and whatever the buzz happens to be.
If any of you readers happen to be in the courthouse tonight, drop by and say hi. I'm looking forward to an interesting time!
Keep checking in today and tonight. I will try to post some small updates throughout the day today. Election results will begin coming in shortly after 7 p.m. when the polls first close. Absentee ballots will likely be first and that is expected to be a record number.

5:45 p.m.-Still waiting for them to count absentees right now. Due to the large number of absentees and the fact that they are all in individual envelopes it takes a long time just to open them and prepare them to be counted. Mainly just election workers here at the moment but within the next hour that will all change.
The workers have told me to expect a late night and hope that everything goes smoothly. Any machine problems or a large number of write-ins, as is possible in the Public Administrator's race, could slow things down dramatically.

5:08 p.m.- I'm at the courthouse getting all of my techno goodies set up and a few people have begun to trickle in. The 'count watchers' for both the Democrat and Republican parties have already arrived to begin supervising the absentee count which can legally take place before the polls close at 7 p.m..
On a side note, we just got the first word on exit polls out of Pennsylvania and they are showing Obama up by about 15%. Take that for what it's worth though because exit polls are tricky. However, Pennsylvania is one of several must wins for McCain tonight.
