Ladies and their vampires
Over the years I've been to the movies a bunch of times. It gets expensive sometimes, but I've always felt it was a good, fun way to go have a good time.
This past weekend, along with apparently the rest of the world, I took my sweetheart out to see New Moon.
Now, for the two of you who don't know, New Moon is the second in a series of four books written for teenage girls centered on a relationship between a young girl and well, a vampire.
Knowing the chaos that surrounds these big movies at the theater we opted to skip the premiere and wait a couple of days before braving the crowds of oogling teenie-boppers.
So, Saturday afternoon we had plans to go to Cape Christmas shopping and decided maybe that would be a good day to catch the movie.
On our drive to Cape we decided it would probably be best to stop and get tickets before we went shopping and that was definitely true. By the time we arrived, the first seven showings of the day were already sold out, so we got our tickets and traveled to the mall to wait for the 6:20 showing.
We hung out for a few hours getting our Christmas shopping done for the year and then after dinner headed back to the theater.
As soon as we arrived we could tell it was going to be quite a wait. We stood in line outside for a few minutes until someone told us that if we had pre-purchased tickets we could go on inside.
That didn't turn out to be quite as good of a thing as we at first thought it would be. So, we weaseled through the door and the guy took our ticket and just as we started to strut to over to our individual theater, another guy stopped us and pointed us toward the line where you wait to be seated.
We were around 200 people back in the line and we arrived 50 minutes early. Since we were standing in line next to the concession stand, I decided to go ahead and load up on popcorn and sodas. We stood in line for about 40 minutes so before the line moved I already needed a refill on popcorn.
FINALLY, the line moved and we slowly made our way in to find our seats.
Once we got sat down and people continued filing in we decided to move because apparently we had been seated behind Bigfoot. After we moved and got cozy, suddenly we noticed the theater getting warm.
After a little while it warm from warm to downright hot with people all around us sweating and miserable. Several people went and asked management to turn the air on but they refused saying it was just hot because so many people were crammed in there. Later we realized it was so hot because for some reason they had the heat on.
As much as these aren't my favorite movies, once the film started the night got better. I shouldn't admit it in public, but I actually enjoyed the movie even though I will never understand why a girl would ditch the chiseled buff werewolf dude for a pasty, rude vampire. But I never claimed to understand women.
We had a really good time Saturday, though, and I hope I haven't made it sound all-bad.
After watching the reaction of these ladies though and listening to them hoop and holler when his came off I only have one thing to say: Never again to I want to hear a woman make fun of us guys for getting all crazy over Star Wars premieres. The only thing missing Saturday night was a bunch of Yoda costumes.
