Independence Day in Bloomfield

What a blast! (Okay, everyone, collective groan …) Bloomfield had a beautiful fireworks display on July 4, thanks to the City of Bloomfield and its hardworking employees. Activities began at noon and although some of them didn't go as planned, there was a real hometown atmosphere with barbecue, pageants, a dunking booth (the mayor proved quite popular there) and a greased pig chase. Erma the Pig gave the kids a good stare before they began the chase.
Next year, the holiday falls on a Friday, which will probably boost attendance if promoted well in advance. Some suggestions for 2008: Watermelon Eating Contest Seed Spitting Contest (following former) Corn on the Cob Boil (sell for a buck apiece; would probably go over great) Ice Cream Making Contest (churches challenge each other?) "Homecoming" like gospel singing -- the small cabin would be great for this. Talent Contest to go with former? So, what do you think? Did you enjoy the festivities? We're waiting to hear from you. I attended the activities at Bloomfield and can only say Thank you to the town for all that you did. My sons and I were there from noon until the last fireworks went off and had a blast. The fireworks display was fantastic and the singer who sung the National Anthem was awesome. Thank you Bloomfield for a job well done. You make me proud of my home town.
I loved it this year, it was so much fun, we had a wonderful time and the dunk both was so much fun to dunk my Hubby...lol I love that the town keeps us all together on July 4th, cant wait till next year.
