Remember 1980?

I'm back, folks, and want to jog your memories a tad by harkening back to the summer of '80, which might put our recent hot spell in a different light. As I recall, we had two weeks straight of triple digit heat in July that year. Whenever I get grumpy about our current weather, I remember that summer living in an apartment in Cape without A/C and thank God for small favors.
Anyone else remember that heat wave? But I hazard to guess Gulf War/Iraqi Freedom vets could probably give us all an earful about the true definition of the word "hot." Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

Speaking about Iraq and the heat,I wonder why all those Congresspeople that wanted this war are not over there fanning those poor boys and girls that are trying to free those people and why is their government on vacation while Americans are dieing for them.
I remember that summer of '80 well. We kept our garden watered, but the green beans were still too tough to eat. Our son who was in high school detasseled corn that summer, a good experience as far as learning to appreciate the value of an education career-wise. None of those kids wanted a lifetime of field work. It was truly miserable.
