It's been a long time

It has indeed been a long time since I visited this blog. I just haven't had much on my mind that I thought would interest the folks who might check in.
But tonight, something is bothering me, and I want to sound off about it. Part of my job is to cover board meetings; granted, not the most exciting proposition, but necessary in order to keep the public informed. Due to the Veterans Day holiday, I was going to be able to cover both the school board and the city board meetings this month. Why's that, you ask? Both boards meet on the same day of the month and at almost the same time. The school board decided to go ahead and meet on Monday, a legal holiday. The city board was to meet on Tuesday. At least, that's the date on the agenda faxed to me last week. Earlier tonight, I stayed at the office until the prescribed 6:30 p.m. meeting time, then drove the half block to park near city hall. Funny, the place was dark. Where was everybody? I waited … some times folks run on June Welborn time, after all. When it seemed like no one was going to show up, I got the inkling I'd been had. I walked up to the door, agenda in hand, and saw the same agenda posted in the window with one tiny exception. The date had been changed to Wednesday, Nov. 14. Now, here's the deal: I have a fax machine at work and an answering machine, too. How hard would it have been to fax a new agenda or leave a message? I don't know about you, but to me it seems fishy to me. What do you think? Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Well, frankly, I think it's pretty silly that, in a town as small as Bloomfield, your two most important board meetings are on the same night. What if someone is on both boards? That's not unlikely in small towns.
What do we have here - an inability to compromise? Do they not co-ordinate, because it would mean that one of them would have to "give over" to the other one? "Well, we're not gonna change OUR meeting date - so YOU'LL just have to change YOURS!"
If so, that's sad, because it's hard enough to get things done in a small town. We don't need competition between boards.
Ha Ha I also went to the dark Library Monday....
