Days of wine and rosesPosted Sunday, May 16, 2010, at 10:36 PM
Chuck and Alli Bridges of Bloomfield enjoy the paddle boats on the lake at the Boat House Winery Saturday night, May 15, 2010. Opening day for the new winery went quite well, with about 500 visitors. Aren't these two just the cutest couple??
I cannot tell you how happy I am about this new development! You can read an objective account of David's new business operation on the Statesman page - Noreen has done a wonderful job - She gives the names of the wines, the background of the purchase - everything but the menu, I think. (See "Where culture and country collide") I'll give the not-so-objective-or-impartial point of view, since I just love the place!
I made my first reconnaissance of the site on Thursday, May 13, before it was fully operational. My friend and I were welcomed by servers Amanda and Erica, and owner David Duncan and his son Craig, who insisted we go back and meet chefs, Jason Bollinger and Tom Ryan. It felt like Old Home Week, as Jason graduated from high school with my son Matthew. I felt as if I had known the girls all my life!
We needn't have worried about the lack of a big crowd on Thursday, as the Saturday crowd more than made up for it. By the time I got there after the Advance graduation ceremony, word was that 500 people had shown up during the day!
They saved us a table dockside, so I was able to take pictures of the geese, the ducks, and the cute Bloomfield couple on the water.
The food is delicious! On Thursday we had the fresh strawberry summer salad, and on Saturday we tried the Spinach Bacon Salad. I can hardly wait to try the sandwiches and the specialty pizza! They have two varieties of soup - Chicken with Rice and Yukon Gold Potato with Bacon and Cheddar. Yum! One of my favorites is the chocolate-covered strawberries! Ohhhhh....sinfully delicious!
Where is the winery? From Advance, head down Highway 25 to Highway K (known locally as the Swinton Road), travel it west to BB, circle around to County Road 252. Watch for signs. From the south, go north on Hwy 25 to State Hiway M, turn west (left) on M, turn north on State Hwy BB, then turn east on County Road 252.
Better tell you the hours: Open on Thursday - Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Not open yet on Monday through Wednesday, darn it!
