Quirky cafe is Captiva Island favorite
Madeline's Florida Food Review:
Though it takes some effort to get there, one of my favorite places to eat on my recent trip to Paradise-Down-Under (more commonly as Southern Florida)is the Bubble Room on Captiva Island. Yes, the drive is horrendous (bumper to bumper traffic), but the scenery is breath-taking--white sand beaches, blue waters, exotic birds, and temps in the upper 70's when we were there.
Actually, we made it there only twice and were surprised at how quickly we could get in.
Of all the dishes I had, I enjoyed the blackened salmon the most. I have no doubt that I'll daydream about it all year long until I can go back.
It's all fantastic, though--salmon, shrimp, grouper, snapper, clams, crabs--fresh from the nearby Gulf.
Maybe time goes fast in the Bubble Room because there's so much to look at. The walls, the ceiling, the tables, even the restrooms are packed with colorful memorabilia--old movie star photos, Coca Cola items, chandeliers--you name it. Someone worked hard to gather up this collection!
The desserts seem to be world famous: I tried the multi-layer orange cake the first time--but I struck gold the second time with a key lime pie that was a physical experience, during which I ate each bite slowly, trying not to moan loudly!
I'm home now, so my Florida vacation must be relegated to the stuff of dreams, as I face the grim realities of a Missouri winter.
