Where is Friendship?

How can you forget Friendship?

Well, that's exactly what's happened! I found this photo on my desktop, and I can't, for the life of me, remember where I took it!

I asked my traveling buddy, and now that he sees the photo, he says it's in Arkansas between Little Rock and Arkadelphia.

He first thought it was the "Friendship" that was on old Highway 25 between Malden and Kennett.

The only "old Highway 25" that I know of is the gravel road that takes off to the east from Highway 25 in Advance, travels a ways, cuts back south, intersects with my highway (00), keeps going south to 91 (to Bell City), crosses it and continues almost to Aquilla before it disappears into the mists of oblivion....

Yessir, folks, it takes a lot of gas to travel this U.S. of A. and sniff out the little forgotten places....

Then, it takes even more brain power to REMEMBER them, when the specter of the "Big A" looms over your brain, threatening to destroy every memory you ever possessed (important or trivial).

Still, I hope you won't mind if I take a few days off from my "On the Road" project....since the road is so BLASTED HOT! You should see what MoDot is doing on Highway 25!!!

A heat index of 114 is nothing to sneeze at!

If I were in Dexter right now, do you know where I would be? At the Corner Cafe! My good blogger buddy Ken Steinhoff tried to take my Facebook advice and try out the new Mediterranean steak house in Dexter yesterday, but I hadn't known that it was closed on Monday--so Ken and his mom dropped in at the Corner Cafe! They liked it so much that he posted a raving review on his very popular blog at http://www.capecentralhigh.com/cape-phot... Check it out!

Oh, how I do love Ken's blog, which covers a heck of a lot more than Cape Central High! He comes up from Florida pretty often to see his mother (what a GOOD son!), and he usually writes about everything he sees along the way!

I recently saw his photo collage of old Cairo, Illinois. Absolutely wonderful! If he sees this blog (and he usually does!), maybe he'll post the link to that collection of remarkable photos.

1. I did a Google search for Friendship, Mo, and came up with zip on the first pass. Maybe it was a figment of Facebook's imagination and everybody unfriended it, so it ceased to exist.

2. Thank you for the kind words about my blog. I've done a whole bunch of Cairo stories going back to the late 60s.

The most recent is when I passed through there at night.

Earlier in the week, I was with a video crew doing a documentary on the town.

They had seen my photos and wanted to talk with me about how I've photographed it over the years. This story contains a whole collection of other links: 43 years of Cairo photography, the Delta Queen docking in Cairo, Barry Goldwater campaigning there in 1964 and others.

OK, here's your answer. Like your friend pointed out, Friendship is in Arkansas, not Missouri.

https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e...

It's a town in Hot Spring County, Arkansas. The population was 206 at the 2000 census.

One last comment. The link you posted for the Corner Stop Cafe takes you to the top of the blog, which is fine for today, but you'll get another story tomorrow, Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise.

Here's the permanent link to the Corner Street Cafe review:

If Dexter was Jackson, I'd be eating there several times a week. It's kind of a long hoof from Cape, though, and a lot longer one from FL.

There was a Friendship, Mo. at one time. I just talked with my brother,(Expert in all of Southeast Mo) and his barber in Hayti, Mo. for 34 years lived in Friendship just northeast of Kennett on old Hwy 25. I have traveled that gravel road for years as my dad lived there before he passed away in 1987. I especially loved that area as many enterprising folks would have locally grown watermelons and cantaloupes for as low as 25 cents each. Ripe and sweet as sugar piled under an old tree in their yard and loved to see you stop and sit a spell and learn the news of what was happening on the 'big road'. Thanks for the memory.

My brother also added that some folks attend the same church as he does and still live in Friendship.
