Facebook Hoax fools my friends!

Posted Monday, September 26, 2011, at 3:05 PM

How gullible can we get??

This is a fast note just to tell you not to pay attention to the new Facebook hoax that's circulating out there on your sacred walls! This is it:

"FACEBOOK JUST RELEASED THEIR PRICE GRID FOR MEMBERSHIP $9.99 PER MONTH FOR GOLD MEMBER SERVICES, $6.99 PER MONTH FOR SILVER MEMBERSHIP SERVICES $3.99 PER MONTH FOR BRONZE MEMBERSHIP SERVICES, FREE IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE BEFORE MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. WHEN YOU SIGN ON TOMOROW MORNING YOU WILL BE PROMPTEDFOR PAYMENT INFO...IT IS OFFICAL IT WAS EVEN ON THE NEWS FACEBOOK WILL START CHARGING DUE TO THE NEW PROFILE CHANGES. IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS ON YOUR WALL YOUR ICON WILL TURN BLUE AND FACEBOOK WILL BE FREE FOR YOU. PLEASE PASS THIS MESSAGE ALONG IF NOT YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE DELETED IF YOU DONT PAY!"

I've received three of these warnings in the last 24 hours. I have to share blogger Ken Steinhoff's advice with you! He is SO FUNNY! Here it is:

Ken's Rule of thumb:

"If someone sends you a message that is in ALL CAPS, uses OMG or LOL, warns of dire consequences if you do (or don't do) something, says that some percentage of people won't take action, and / or asks you to forward it to the ...world, it's generally bogus.

Please forward this to all your friends within the next 12 minutes or the sun will come up in the west in the morning. OMG won't THAT be something!!! LOL. I know that 92% of you won't forward this message. Won't you be surprised in the morning?"

Ah, the fun we have on Facebook! I admit to having experienced a little pang of worry, when I read the dire warning from my friends, but it just didn't sound right--so I did not fall victim to the hoax.

Of course, what if I had? Fortunately, this is one hoax that didn't cost anybody anything. Our passwords weren't stolen, our bank accounts weren't wiped out, and our reputations weren't ruined.

It was relatively harmless.

So, have a good laugh at your own expense--and the next time this happens, let your fingers do the walking to www.snopes.com -- and learn the truth behind the LIES!!!!

If I don't hear it from the main source, I usually don't give it much attention.
