On the Road again...

Enjoying the highway flowers

Whenever I travel, I like to pass the time by looking at the local wildflowers growing alongside the highway.

The BFF and I drove to Atlanta, Texas this week, and I was charmed by the beautiful red flowers clustered around the highway from Arkansas to Texas. I can't imagine why I had never seen them before.

Curiosity finally got the best of me, and I requested that we stop for a closer look. I took a few photos and picked one of the little blooms. Looked like clover, I thought.

Sure enough, the BFF's family confirmed it--red clover, seeded along the highway by the highway department.

My sister, who grew up in Alabama, says that the red clover makes a good ground cover, because it needs very little mowing.

I really LIKE this clover, and I wonder why MoDot doesn't use it on our highways? It would certainly make for a much more interesting trip.

In fact, I wonder if I could get it established on my pond levee?

Next "On the Road" blog--more old, classic car identification.

From Atlanta, Texas, this is your rural Missouri reporter. Madeline, taking a bit of a break!

I cam believe the roads are beautiful in Texas and Arkansas. The drive is always more pleasant when the view is nice.
