Another cool car seen on the road

On our recent road trip, we stopped at a McDonald's in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Parked out front was another cool car. I had never seen one like it.

We had to check the grill to see that it was, in fact, a Volkswagon.

Ya just never know what you'll see when you get outside your box!

My dad had a VW Fastback. Can't remember the model but it was in the early 70's. He tried to teach me how to drive in it, but-well we won't go there. LOL

Everyone should own a VW in their life. I remember adjusting the valves every 3000 miles.

I told my dear wife once it was like riding around in a 'beer can'.

As a fanatic for anything VW, this is definitely a Karmann Ghia! Love 'em! I went to the hospital to have my son in a 1975 bright yellow Super Beetle. A few years ago I went through my second childhood and bought a 1978 white on white Beetle convertible on eBay! I love the sound of a VW...I love the SMELL of an old bug, and there is nothing more fun to drive than a VW with a four-in-the-floor! Just recently my husband and I noticed a VW bus in a used car lot and we immediately started remembering the 60's when everyone hippie-minded was driving one with peace signs all over it! Love VWs!

Ah, wartz, so glad to see our good friend from Down Under!

I love to hear the stories prompted by these old cars! My dad used to talk about Karmann Ghias. He drove a regular Volkswagen for years. Maybe he liked foreign cars because he was stationed in Europe right after the end of WWII.

As a history buff, I can't help admiring German ingenuity. I just wish they hadn't gotten sidetracked by that screwball Hitler. Think of what they could have accomplished! I was in Berlin in 1998 and was so saddened to see that all the old buildings were gone.

The Karmann Ghia came mostly with a 1500cc or 1600cc motor so may not have had the performance to match its good looks. I imagine that around 30mpg would have been typical. I once pursued a girl who owned one of these but sadly, like the Germans I lost the battle.

I love red cars too even though Ive never had one that color. Wonder what kind of gas mileage this VW has? Man, I love old cars!
