I'm thankful for...

Posted Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at 5:32 PM

During this time of thanksgiving, Minnie thought it most appropriate to acknowledge those things for which she is most grateful. The assignment is much like it was in the second grade when we had to write on lined paper (or stone, depending upon who's reading this), the things we most appreciated in our lives. It seems that with the aging process comes also the change in priorities. With that in mind, I am thankful for…

Teeth whose roots are my own

Good neighbors

Dogs that choose to leave their mementos somewhere other than my yard

Corn pillows (if you don't have one, get one. If you have one, warm it up).

Small towns

Smooth heels

Rhythm (don't leave home without it)

A dryer

Good wine

Calcium chews (chocolate in particular)

A vacuum at the carwash that really sucks

Microwave popcorn with no burnt kernels

The ability to still touch my toes

The ability to still paint my toenails

Waitress Red toenail polish

Elastic (sad to say)

A good writing pen

A sense of humor

A doctor with a sense of humor

Comfortable boots

Grandchildren who love to see me coming

Dramamine

Alfred Hitchcock

Dryer sheets

Pumice stones (greatest thing since the wheel)

Glass fingernail files (second best thing since the wheel)

The wheel

Rear windshield wipers

A fast Internet connection

Cordless phones

(I'd say DVD players, but they have yet to prove their worth)

Wonderful friends (should have been first on the list)

Finally….SKINNY COWS…only one thing better…CHOCOLATE SKINNY COWS!

And last, but not least…living in the country, thereby eliminating the need for aldermen!!! (Just had to, Corey!)

Amen to the no aldermen issue! A goat is better than an alderman any day!

I am thankful for:

* getting to watch my children grow up

* grandchildren who reach for me when they see me

* a dog who chases frisbees

* a job that I love

* friends

* a hot cup of Cappucino

* homemade bread

* early mornings

* sunshine coming through the windows on a cold morning

* giggling

* good teammates for an important project

* good TV programs like NCIS

*I am thankful that I can still learn how to cook from my mom,grandma,and aunts,yet they are sensible enough to cook the turkey themselves.

*I am thankful that all though it isn't perfect,I have a job in the field I went to school for.I can picture myself doing this until I retire as a powerball winner-lol.

*I am thankful that I have met older,wiser cyberpals who are very interesting and taught me the way of the skinny cow!

*I saw this on another post,but it is worth being thankful for-that we live in a country where we can speak our mind,disagree with each other,and yet not be tortured or put in prison for our thoughts.

*I am thankful my family gets along,even with a bossy,older sister(she is redeemed by her having wonderful,nearly perfect kids!)I am also glad my family likes my boyfriend and his family,makes the living easy!

*I am so thankful for my boyfriend,who puts up with my craziness,and the gene pool from which it sprang.He is a true blessing.I am also thankful for his Mom's "carry-out",so that this poor,single gal doesn't starve(or cook,or buy groceries-lol!).She is also a fantastic second mom.

I'm thankful for my cyberpals who make me laugh 'til my side hurts.

--for a wonderful big sister who is also my best friend.

--for a warm lap cat on a chilly night.

--for puppy dogs who think I'm the most beautiful, kind, clever and wonderful person in the whole world. (wouldn't it be great if we could all be the kind of people our dogs think we are?)

--for warm socks.

I'm thankful for my wife and family. Years ago I suffered a stroke and was introduced to a CNA by a mutual friend. She put me through a major therapy process and helped me to regain some use of the limbs that had been paralyzed by the stroke. My left hand was balled up into a fist and I had a lot of difficulty doing things with my left side because of it. This CNA helped me to regain partial use of that hand (although I still have some paralysis, it's a far cry from what it was).

We began to sit and talk and get to know each other, and I found out she was single, but had a son. I asked her out and we got to know each other even better. On August 19, 1994, I married that CNA and have raised her son as my own because his biologiccal father wouldn't have anything to do with him. We have been happily married for 13 years and I'm thankful to have her in my life.
