Oh my … we've turned into our parentsPosted Monday, July 30, 2007, at 10:02 AM
Saturday was my 10-year high school reunion. Prior to the reunion, my old group of friends had a barbecue at a park in Poplar Bluff so that we could meet each other's children, families, etc., and have a little fun prior to seeing all those other people we really didn't like much in school.
As I stood back looking at our group, I came to a (somewhat) horrible realization. As children were running helter-skelter I heard the exact same things that our parents used to say to us. That's when it hit me, WE'VE BECOME OUR PARENTS!!! That may not necessarily be a bad thing, but it wasn't long ago we were the children. We were the ones causing our parents to pull out their hair. What happened? It's amazing how much time has gone by since graduation. While it was good to see everyone again, it was also a little depressing, too. While I'm not "old" in the grand scheme of things, I believe that I feel a little older today than I did Saturday morning. Does everyone try to lose weight for their reunion???
I've only been to one reunion because of work, but I know I looked better than I did in high school for sure. So that was good. I didn't stay too long cause of the drinking, but I enjoyed myself and saw some of those folks I wanted to see (plus others I didn't, of course).
I guess what surprised me was so many of my classmates have died. We won't have another reunion for a couple of years. Hope everyone stays healthy.
Well, I could not BELIEVE how OLD my classmates looked at my last reunion, which was pzzzmmmmxxx years ago! I feel quite sure that I did not look so incredibly ancient!!!
