Back to School mayhem

There is one thing on this planet that can turn otherwise sane parents into savage, fighting monsters.
The Back to School aisle at Wal-mart … need I say more? Don't even bother attempting to take a cart down this aisle unless you have an extra three hours that you had nothing better to do with. Don't attempt to grab that last pair of Fiskars scissors unless you are fairly certain that you can win an all-out street brawl with the mother standing beside you. Then there is the mad scramble for the last packages of paper, pens, pencils and the ever-popular Kleenex. I believe the stores intentionally stock less of those items just so they can sit back and "watch the show." Then, you get to scramble to find the appropriate clothing to send your child back to school in. Of course, what we all as parents should realize is that no matter what we buy, our kids are still going to come home the first day of wearing said outfit covered in dirt, mud, grass and/or their favorite lunch food. And when kids create stains, I've learned, you can use all the Shout in the world and those things just aren't coming out. The only thing that even comes close to Back to School is the day-after-Thanksgiving sale, and we won't even get into that yet. I have seen people hospitalized during that wonderful event!! Just remember, that mom or dad that you elbow in order to grab the last Dora backpack may be serving on the PTO with you. Or maybe your children will become fast friends and that can make for an uncomfortable situation. So, think twice before clawing, spitting, screaming, jabbing or punching. It could come back to haunt you sooner than you think!!!! Don't you just love Back to School??? Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I have to admit that as a former teacher and parent, I do not miss the annual Back to School Madness.
It feels good to walk right past the supply aisle and watch all the frenzied parents and kids from a distance!! Heehee!
Just enjoy it while you can, Sasha! I remember the joy of having all three kids with their homework spread out on the kitchen table, while I fixed supper.... Good memories!
Anyone who thinks Harry Potter is the devil has obviously never visited Wal-Mart at this time of year.
Corey you are soooooo right. I avoid Wal-Mart this time of year almost as vigorously as I do at Christmas.
Hahahahaha! Walmart is the GREAT EVIL!!!
I was there today, and people tried to run over me in the parking lot!!
I still say that Walmart plays subliminal messages over their intercom system. You know, the ones in sound ranges adult ears can't hear??? The ones that tell the children to throw fits until they get what they want. Technology is not always our friend.
I don't doubt the subliminal messages, but the ones I CAN hear are the ones that drive me nuts!! Can they be any more obnoxious? By the time they combine the loud music and shouted instructions with the screaming kids, I just wanna run for the nearest exit!
Hey, I just realized that I'm talking about the Walmart in Cape. I haven't had much experience with the one in Dexter... I wonder if it's the same?
