Stay cool!

As the heat continues to bear down on our region, I want to remind everyone to remember basic safety precautions that need to be taken during hot weather.
If you work outside (like my husband does) make sure to take plenty of breaks, drink lots of water and Gatorade (not soda) and if you start feeling weak or otherwise funny, find some air conditioning fast. No job is worth your life! If you don't have to be outside, don't be. If you know someone who doesn't have air conditioning, offer to let them come to your house to cool off for a while. If you don't know anyone, take a trip to the library or even Wal-mart. And please call to check on your family and friends, especially the elderly. Many times this age group won't reach out and ask for help, instead sitting in a sweltering apartment or house until heat overcomes them. A little bit of concern can go a long way towards saving someone's life!! |
