What is it about Nader?
Posted Monday, February 25, 2008, at 8:38 AM<< Previous | Read comments | Respond | Email link | Next >>
I heard yesterday that Ralph Nader has decided to throw his towel into the 2008 presidential race.
I have to admit, I have never been a fan of politics. I try to pay as little attention to the political arena as I can. I know that Ralph Nader has run before, but I couldn't tell you much more about him. So, can you out there in cyber-land educate me on Ralph Nader, who he is, etc. I have heard grumblings that he may take some votes away from the Democratic nominee, whoever that may be, but I would really like to garner a little more information about this guy. Thanks so much for your help!! Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Nadar is like Dennis Kucinich (D) and Ron Paul (R), in that when you listen to him you realize that all the front running candidates are with very little variation clones of each other. Hillary is 98% the same as McCain, and Obama is 98% the same as Hillary. Forget having an election, just throw their names in a hat and pick one during a live FOX extravaganza featuring dancing monkeys and flying pigs.
"I've heard him on independent talkshows"
Nader has been a consumer advocate for nearly 20 yrs. I've heard on independent talk shows like "For the People" with host, Chuck Harder. Although I disagree with much of his philosophy, He is an independent voice standing up for the consumers versus corporations. He is against NAFTA and trade with communist China. In some ways he sounds like populists Ron Paul or Ross Perot with a liberal or progressive point of view. I know that some leaders in the Prohibition National Committee http://www.prohibitionists.org
of which I'm a committeeman, hold to many of Nader's ideas.
Ralph Nader has run for president several times before. This may be his year - at least for me. I'm still in the "None of the Above" category so he offers me an alternative. Marginal, but an alternative.
The thing I remember most about him was when one reporter asked him before the election about his taking votes away from Al Gore, thereby ensuring that George W. Bush would win the election. Nader responded that if Al Gore couldn't win the election against "a buffoon" like George W. Busch on his own, then he didn't deserve to win. I couldn't believe he called GWB a "buffoon" on national television.
I bet he didn't get invited to the White House, much less get to sleep in the Lincoln bedroom.
He's the Green Party candidate who is credited with throwing the last election to the Republicans by siphoning off votes for Al Gore. Thus, they are calling him a "spoiler," and I think they are not far wrong!
