Going for Eagle Scout
Boy Scout Steven Ulm has been a busy young man recently. Ulm recently completed the work on his community service project as part of his requirements to reach the rank of Eagle in the Boy Scouts - the highest rank a boy may earn in the Boy Scout program. Ulm's project was to build a special playground for the youngsters in the Early Childhood Development program at Southwest Elementary School in Dexter. The new playground features tiles made of recycled auto tires and playground equipment. Additional landscaping work will be completed once the construction at the school is finished later this school year. On hand for a reception Friday were (from left) teacher Julie Garner, Ulm, teacher Tonya Reiker, Stephanie Rose of Subway in Dexter, Gary Ashley of Busy B, Gary Grody of Hart Transportation, and Scott Garner of Busy B. Additional assistance for the project was offered by the Southwest Elementary PTO, McDonald's of Dexter, Welch Products of Macon, Mo., Little Tykes of Farmington, Mo., and Adam's Paint of Dexter. Ulm is a member of Boy Scout Troop 371 of Dexter.
