E.S. "Shorty" Johnson, son of the late Glenn Marshall and Annie Rosetta Parish Johnson, was born on April 24, 1916, in Morganfield, Ky., and died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Turrell, Ark., at the age of 86. He married Betty Jean Jenkins on Dec. 18, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nev., and she preceded him in death on July 26, 1997. He was also preceded in death by a sister Ellen Vernice Strode on July 22, 2001. Survivors include two step-daughters, Alevia Kitchen and Betty Lynn Baxter, both of Moberly; two sisters, Betty White of Turrell, Ark., and Pauline Smith of Grand Haven, Mich.; two brothers, Lotis and Otis Johnson, both of Wasco, Calif. Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Rev. Donny Morrison officiating. Interment followed in the Maple Cemetery in Caruthersville. John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of services.
