Kenneth William Averett, Jr., son of the late Kenneth William Averett, Sr., and Gussie Westerfield Averett, was born on May 8, 1929, at Morehouse and died in Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the age of 73. Mr. Averett was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ. In 1950, he joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Texas, Massachusetts and Guam. He was united in marriage to Fannie Ethel Brigman on Dec. 9, 1951, at Piggott, Ark. They lived in Charter Oak until 1961 and then moved their family to Dexter. Mr. and Mrs. Averett owned and operated, in conjunction with his parents, the Allis Chalmer Dealership in Dexter for 34 years. Mr. Averett's passions in life were God, family, baseball and fishing. Mr. Averett is survived by his wife Fannie Averett of the home in Dexter; three daughters, Jane Smith and husband Leon of Dexter, Jeannie Robinson and husband Alan of Dexter, Kim Monteer and husband Jay of Raymore; one son, Marty Averett and wife Lynne of Dexter; one sister, Jane Flower and husband Bill of Dexter; two brothers, Larry Averett of Overland Park, Kan., and Michael Averett and wife Renee of St. Charles, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Summer Swindell of Dexter, Dawn Smathers of Cape Girardeau, Gabe Smith, Brent Robinson, Jordan Averett, and Colton Averett, all of Dexter, and Hunter Collins and Morgan Monteer, both of Raymore; one great-grandchild Alexis Smith of Dexter. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 9, 2003. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Brother Kevin Lawrence and Brother Dale Grissom officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association. PAID
