Anna Elizabeth Matthes, daughter of the late Michael Litzler and Mary Dietsch Litzler, was born on Dec. 4, 1916, at Dexter and died in the St. Joseph's Hospital at Kirkwood on Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the age of 86. Mrs. Matthes was a member of the former St. Casimir Parish Catholic Church in St. Louis County, a former inspector for Carter Carburetor in St. Louis for over 40 years, a member of the Carter Carburetor Retiree's Association and a resident of the St. Agnes Home in Kirkwood. She was united in marriage to Walter Matthes in September of 1952 at St. Louis. Mr. Matthes preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1980. Survivors include one step-son, James Matthes of St. Louis; one step-daughter, Judy Bible of St. Louis; two sisters, Clara Klinkhardt of Farmington, and Rita Bader of Dexter. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Litzler, Leonard Litzler and Anton Litzler; three sisters, Lillian Dieter, Christine Smith and Mary Litzler. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. A rosary service will be conducted Friday evening at 8 p.m. Funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with Father John Sheley officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
