Betty Lu Latham, the daughter of the late Reuben Francis and Jewel Josephine Haskins Bowling, was born in Lilbourn on Jan. 22, 1941, and died at her home in Jacksonville, Ill. on Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at the age of 62. Mrs. Latham was employed for 18 years at the International Paper factory in Litchfield, Ill. and later worked with Pathway School in Jacksonville, Ill. for eight years. She was a member of the Baptist faith. On May 18, 1957, she was married to William A. Latham, Sr. in Hernando, Miss. Surviving are her husband, William A. Latham, Sr. of Jacksonville, Ill.; one daughter, Rebecca Ann Savage of Jacksonville, Ill.; two sons, Robert Glenn Latham of Springfield, Ill. and Willam A. Latham, Jr. of Jacksonville, Ill.; three grandchildren; one brother, Reuben Francis Bowling, Jr. of Imboden, Ark.; two sisters, Ila Mae Horton and Martha Lee Lee, both of Dexter. She was preceded in death by her parents. There will be no visitation or services. Messages of sympathy may be shared with the family online at www.buchananfuneralhomes.com. Memorial gifts are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family committal of the ashes will be held later at the Bernie Cemetery. The Gillham-Buchanan Funeral Home of Jacksonville, Ill. is in charge of the arrangments.
