Melba Harlan

Melba Harlan, the daughter of the late Paul and Alma Sutton Ritch, was born in Blytheville, Ark., on April 21, 1941, and died at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn., on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at the age of 61. Mrs. Harlan had been a resident of Gray Ridge most of her life. She was a nurse practitioner and had worked at the John J. Pershing Veterans Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary of Dexter. On Dec. 14, 1957, she was married to James Harlan in Hernando, Miss. Surviving are her husband James Harlan of Gray Ridge; two sons, Tommy Harlan of Dexter and Michael Harlan of Gray Ridge; three grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Ritch of Dexter and Kenneth Ritch of St. Louis; one sister, Sue Ann Holder of St. Louis. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the V.A. Cemetery in Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
