William Norton "Dude" Evans, age 84, a resident of Bloomfield and formerly of East Prairie, died at 11:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the John Cochran Veterans Medical Center in St. Louis. Mr. Evans was born March 31, 1918, at Hickman, Ky., to the late William and Nettie Lee Johnston Evans. He had lived in the East Prairie area most of his life moving to Bloomfield in 1979. A member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie, he was a retired farmer and machinist and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Lois Lovella Frix who survives of Bloomfield. Also surviving are two sons, James Curtis Evans of Dallas, Texas, and William George Evans of Bloomfield; three daughters, Donna Forbey of Bloomfield, Netta Stevens of New Orleans, La., and Treva Doris King of East Prairie; one sister, Leola Poole of Jackson; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, James P. Thomas and infant Prather Thomas preceded him in death. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. Rev. Kenneth Biggs, pastor of the First General Baptist Church of Dexter, officiated. Interment followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston with military graveside rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honors Program.
