Genevieve "Jeanie" Stephens, the daughter of Maurice Edgar Carpenter and the late Anselma Gil Carpenter, was born in Miami, Ariz., on Dec. 26, 1938, and died at her home in Dexter on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at the age of 64. Mrs. Stephens had lived in St. Louis and had lived in Dexter since 1980. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and had worked as a sales clerk at Jimmy's Jewelry & More. On July 15, 1956, she was married to Thomas J. Stephens in Lodi, Calif. Surviving are her husband, Thomas J. Stephens of Dexter; two sons, Joe Stephens of O'Fallon, and Chuck Stephens of Dexter; two daughters, Roxanne Ashby of DeBary, Fla., and Dollie Stoner of Dexter; eight grandchildren; her father, Maurice Edgar Carpenter of Chino, Calif.; one brother, Victor Ruiz of Junction City, Kan.; and one sister, Linda Belasco of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Ruiz. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Keith Garland of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements. PAID
