Alvie O. Crabtree, the son of the late Eugene Henry and Dessie Huey Crabtree, was born in Obion County, Tenn., on June 3, 1909, and died at the Three Rivers Healthcare South Campus on Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at the age of 93. Mr. Crabtree had lived for many years in St. Louis and in Dexter from 1972 to 2000, and had lived in Ellsinore since 2000. He was retired from Carter Carburetor and a member of the Southwest Church of the Nazarene in Dexter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a medic during WW II. Mr. Crabtree was married to Adell Smothers in 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1959. He was then married to Thelma Boone on March 4, 1961 in Bernie. Surviving are his wife, Thelma Crabtree of Ellsinore; three daughters, Diane Hamilton of Williamtown, Charlotte Newman of Ellsinore, and Doris Elsworth of Earlville, Ill.; two sons, Phillip Wood of Bakersfield, Calif., and Keith Crabtree of Florissant; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, E.S. "Dobe" Crabtree of Elsberry; and one sister, Lorell Murphy of Dexter; He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ervin, Cam, and Arch Crabtree; and one sister, Lavern Hampton. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Preston Palmer of Poplar Bluff officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
