Varnell Shrum

Varnell Everett Shrum, the son of the late Victory "Vic" and Lilly Pearl Glenn Shrum, was born in Puxico on Dec. 28, 1927, and died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau at the age of 75. Mr. Shrum was raised in Puxico but moved to Bloomsdale where he had lived for many years. Mr. Shrum was a retired truck driver, a member of the Wappapello V.F.W. and a former member of the American Legion and V.F.W. at Bloomsdale. Mr. Shrum was a veteran of the Korean War. He was married to Clareen Wallace in Piggott, Ark. in 1950. Surviving are one son, Timothy E. Shrum of Ste. Genevieve; one daughter, Janeen Bivens of Advance; one grandson; two granddaughters; one brother, Vanis Shrum of Edwardsville, Ill. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Joe Shrum and four sisters, Cordia Denton, Madia Green, Flora Mouser and Grace Walls. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with the Rev. Dean Medlin of Parma officiating. Interment will follow in the Elliott Cemetery near Puxico with full military honors given by the Veterans Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico are in charge of all arrangements.
