R.B. Woods, Jr., son of the late Roy Bickford Woods, Sr., and Elsie Dora Slayton Woods, was born on Aug. 9, 1928, at Bernie and died in the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on Jan. 11, 2003, at the age of 74. Mr. Woods was an Elder in the Community of Christ Church of Bernie, and he had also served as District President for the church in past years. He had served as Mayor of the City of Bernie for 28 years, a charter member of the Bernie Lions Club, a past secretary of the Bernie School Board, a strong supporter of the Bernie Mules, a City Alderman, a Board Member of DAEOC, a Board Member of Stoddard County IDA, a volunteer fireman, the owner and operator of Woods Supermarket in Bernie for 48 years, and employed at the Sikeston Wal-Mart. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Fears on April 2, 1949, at Bernie. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Woods of Bernie; two sons, Roy Bickford Woods, III and his wife, Ann Fricano Woods of New Orleans, La., and Gary Steven Woods and his wife Krystal Dawn Woods of Lake Charles, La.; nine grandchildren, Heather Menendez, Jennifer Woods, Casie Woods, Richelle Cannon, Ryann Woods, Daniel Woods, Summer Duncan, Joshua Bitoun, Jacob Bitoun; four great-grandsons, Austin Menendez, Hunter Menendez, William Cannon and Harrison Cannon; three sisters, Maxine O'Heren of Bernie, Lorene Williams of Santa Fe, N.M., and Betty Branum of Bernie. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nadine Harmon. Visitation will be held from 4-9 p.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Elder Ron Rubottom officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bernie Libary or Bernie City Park PAID
