Helen Hobbs, the daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Coleman Trent, was born in Poplar Bluff on Aug. 30, 1920, and died at her home in Puxico on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, at the age of 82. She lived in California for 40 years until about nine years ago when she moved to Puxico. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting. She attended church at the Hobbs Chapel Church near Puxico. On Sept. 8, 1940, she was married to James Hobbs in Mingo. Surviving are her husband, James Hobbs; one daughter, Jayan VanBurgen of St. Louis; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one grandson; one daughter, Nancy Sue Landon; one brother, Carl Trent. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at the Hobbs Chapel Church near Puxico with Rev. Kim Proffer of Poplar Bluff and Rev. Wiley McGhee of Puxico officiating. Interment followed in the Hobbs Chapel Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of all arrangements.
